There was a missile attack. that U.S. declared against NW Pakistan. It has a impact because there is a chance that NW Pakistan will attack back. The economy is rocking back and forth. It wont be stable for a while. Its important because people will lose jobs and they will stop spending money.

Two national events were the swine flu and the dog flu evolving. I actually knew people who had the swine flu and had to quaratine in order to get better. This is important because this could lead to a pandemic. One global event was the movie transformers 2 coming out into the theatres. I saw it the second day after it's release date and it turned out to be pretty good. This isn't so important because it's just a stupid movie, but I guess it is because it's entertainment to us.

Jane Fonda died. And while everyone is so upset, I'm glad she did. She betrayed our country. She said she went to Iraq to make a 'documentry', which she did but she also did horrible things. Making friends with the Iraq people and when a couple of American soldiers were kidnapped by them, they put some in a really small metal box and had some starve for months, even years. A surviver believe it or not was in one of those boxes for 18 months. They would feed them rice and water once and awhile. But in the documentry she said she was going to prove to Americans how well they are treating our soldiers in jail. Even though they weren't. One major event going on worldwide and still currently would be the election in Afghanistan. With a new president having to face many trials such as narcotics trade, violence, and others, in this new election, it will be interesting to see who is elected. Another reason it is such a large event is because of the circumstances in which people are voting. Both men and women are braving militant attacks in order to cast their ballad.
The second major even going on this summer is the 'cash for clunkers' offer President Obama has offered. All throughout summer we saw this offer on commercials, at dealerships, ect. have seen it effect many in the rough economic situation.
Ok for one The U.S. Navy is not one to mess with three snipers taking out three pirates without any civilian casualties and the pirates did not even know what was happening, that really showed the world what we can do.

Over the summer I heard of many events that caused quite a stir nationally and globally! One event was the case of the 2 girls who went over into North Korea to gather info for a antisocialist government bashing article. When the Korean government found out of their intentions they arrested the 2 girls and sentenced them to 20 years in prison and hard labor. Our government was extremely upset and did every thing its power to help the girls get free and come home. Not until Bill Clinton flew over and had a personal conversation with the North Korean leader did the girls actually get free. This is a good thing because with this issue that arose we were able to begin building a tie with North Korea and it also was a good thing for Bill Clinton....who knows after that he could be president.

~On June 10th, an 88 year old white-supremacist shot down and killed a guard at the Holocaust museum in Washington. I think this is so sad to hear about; for one, someone died. Another thing is that someone had so much hate that they had to do such a thing. This just shows how much hate and prejudiced is still in the world, and really makes you want to change that. The guard wasn't a celebrity who mysteriously died; he was shot because he was in the way of someone's hate.

One big event i know that is taking place this summer is the planning for the war in Korea. We are allied with Germany, and are therefore sending some of our troops to train there. This is obviously important to us because we don't want Korea to nuke us, but most of us don't want our loved ones out there getting shot at either. Billy Mayes' death was also really unfortunate. Who is gonna do all the oxy/orange clean commercials now? All i know is, it doesn't matter who they find for the job, no one will ever be able to sell those products like he could. The guy was a complete genius! I also heard about Obama giving people $4500 to buy a new car, as well as him changing the healthcare system to where the government appoints your physician for you. I think the whole car idea is pretty cool, especially if it means having people getting rid of their old cars, and getting something more shiny and economy friendly. As for his plan for healthcare, im not sure what to think. It would be nice if everyone had equal opportunities to recieve the same healthcare, but what does that mean for the salaries for anyone who works in the healthcare field? Will they go down? Anyone have any idea?

He attended a veterans convention and talked about a health care reform for the country.The global financial crisis, brewing for a while, really started to show its effects in the middle of 2007 and into 2008. Around the world stock markets have fallen, large financial institutions have collapsed or been bought out, and governments in even the wealthiest nations have had to come up with rescue packages to bail out their financial systems. hopefully things calm down and end this crisis soon, before anymore people lose their jobs.

Twitter became a huge thing for everyone this summer. it seems its more better then myspace and facebook.

~Another national event was when a train crashed due to the engineers texting. His negligence caused 25 deaths that day, and all for an unimportant text message conversation. I think that just shows how much newer technolgy is blinding people from whats really important. It also shows how people all need to take texting while driving a lot more serious.
