WHAT IS PATRIOTISM?
I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives. I like to see a man live so that his place will be proud of him. ~Abraham Lincoln
Noah Webster defined "American" as "a native of America; originally applied to aboriginals . . . but now applied to the descendants of Europeans born in America: the name 'American' must always exalt the pride of patriotism." So then what makes American "English" American?
Webster, who once said, "A national language is a national tie, and what country wants it more than America," deeply held the conviction that language was by and for the people, and out of that conviction was born his American Dictionary of the English Language. Starting in 1800, he began compiling the dictionary (it would take 28 years to complete) that would help define the American character.

Patriotism is showing love to your country. It means supporting the troops, even if you don't support why they are sent out. It means supporting the President's choices and laws, even if you don't like him. Patriotim is the act of supporting, even if you don't believe.
Serving your country by do community service and signing up in the military or by doing some kind of government service. Supporting the government when bad choices are made however, isn't doing good for the country at all, just hurting.
Patriotic to me means celebrating all of the soldiers and people who have died for our country. Respecting our flag and not saying bad things about our country. If you're proud to be an American you show it and let others know to. America is the greatest country because we are free to be patriotic so how could you not be proud to be an American and patriotic.
patriotism is representing for your country, being your own independent person and still being a good representation of your country.
Some who is willing to die for the country. also someone who contributes to the country.
Patriotism is being an active citizen and voicing your opinions. It is also considered patriotic to fight for your country but by no means do you have to. It is supporting the principles and ideals of the country and voting in elections.
Patriotism is showing that you support your country. Even in the darkest hours, you show your pride for it. No matter what others say about your country, you never back down. You are the only one that can show how strong your pride is for your country. That is how I see Patriotism
I think patriotism is supporting and loving your county and standing up and fighting for what your country believes in.
Patriotism to me is were a man or a women will fight for there freedom when they are called. To stand when the colors are displayed. When there is a filling soldier dies we respect him. We should not rebel against the people who is defending us against wars. To not say bad things about the country that people were fighting for. Patriotism is were you sign up for the armed force to protect us from danger. The men who are fighting right now over seas are sacrifice there life.
The word patriotic to me means that you take pride in America. Patriotic also means that you support the decisions made by those who serve for us.
I see patriotism as love for your country and people. Supporting them as a whole and not only supporting just what you believe in but things you dont as well.
Patriotism is loving your country. It is not loving your government and how they make their decisions. It is loving your country and your people. It is supporting your troops and the major decisions that the country makes as a whole.
I think patriotism means you're proud
of your country, and you support the people that run this country and the troops, and the people that are willing to die for our country.
i think patriotism is were you show you love your country in any way. putting up a flag or having red white and blue painted somewhere around your house or in your house. and i also think patriotism is were if the u.s. gets invaded you are willing to stand and fight for your country.
Patriotism is showing pride and loyalty to your country. It's supporting the troops and government, even if you don't agree with them. Patriotism is loving your country unconditionally and striving to better the country you live in.
I think that patriotism is your provided legacy as an American citizen. What you do as a citizen of the United States of America is your legacy whether you live as a bum or you prosper into one of the wealthiest citizen in the States.
what patriotism means to me is being committed to their country. Like how the British were committed to England and the Americans were committed to saving America from England.
pariotism is supporting your country in every way possible.
I think that patriotic means to love your country no matter what. Belive in your own country and show that you are patriotic. By wearing our colors RED,WHITE,and BLUE. The three colors that symblise the United States of America. To be the best of the best of the countries in the world. Where we can be free no matter what. Ever we are! :)
Patriotism is too be proud of where you live and do what you can to help or support your country even if it means disagreeing or protest in oder t better your country and your fellow countrymen
Anthony Smith
Blindly following even if you dont agree is not patriotic. Just because you dont agree with something the government decides does not mean you are not a patriot. When something happens that you find is wrong it can be just as appropriate to try and do something about it as opposed to going along with it just because the government decided it.
Patriotism involves loving your country, not just following it like a sheep.
Patriotism is showing pride for your country.Supporting what ever it is. Example would be supporting your troops and obeying the presidents choices and laws that are being made even though you may not agree with him. We all need to show Patriotism to our country and be proud of it. Some people may not have Patriotism but we all should because it's a good thing. Doing Community service is supporting the government and other things you may do. Having to celebrate our soldiers who fought our country is also what it means to me. over all having love for our country and supporting our country is what it all means to me.
Patriotism is when you show your love for the country that person lives in it. That's all I really know about patriotism... Woops.
I'm not the most patriotic person,
but I know what patriotism means.
It means you respect, honor, and have pride for your country that you live in.
That doesn't mean you have to agree with the government and president because you don't, but you should try to respect their decisions.
I think Patriotism is when you love your country and are proud to be an American, living in the home of the free and the home of the brave. I also believe that if the time ever called for it you would help protect our country.
"patroitism" to me is standing strong and proud for your country. Supporting everything about it. Whether you like it or not, you are here for a reason and you should always be proud of it.
When i hear the word Patroitism my immediate thought is RED WHITE AND BLUE. When you see people wearing the USAs colors it makes people see how much you love and are proud of your country.
Also the war, thats a touchy subject when it comes to Patriotism. i think it is good patriotism if you support it because it was the presidents decision and you should always support that. of course its hard to have everyone go for it. but in my opionion it should be supported.
Patriotism is supporting your country in some way. Some chose to serve their country in the army, others show patriotism by displaying a flag outside of their home. By supporting our troops and government and adding your thoughts into the decisions made you are showing patriotism.

Patriotism is a free ticket to an early grave. The most patriotic Americans enlist in the military to enforce the ideals of corrupt politicians who don't really care about us. And then, if they're lucky, they only get shipped home with nothing but the memories of seeing friends lost. If they aren't lucky, they get buried with a free flag.
patriotism to me is standing up for your beliefs even if your the only one who is standing. its also knowing when t fight for your beliefs or debate it and try to stop senseless bloodshed. it also means to supporting the right decision in your eyes no matter the consequences or danger.
Patriotism is obviously showing love and support to your country. It shows how dedicated you are for helping out this country in many ways. Some examples of patriotism are putting a flag on your front yard, community service, supporting our troops, and even painting yourself red white and blue.
(Patriotism) –noun
devoted love, support, and defense of one's country; national loyalty. It is doing whatever you can to protect and stand up for ones country. People that are patriotic are soldiers, people in the government, and everyday citizens. We all support the USA and stand up for freedom and what we believe in.
I think patriotism is that you show your love for your country. Have a flag somewhere to show your love for your country. If the u.s gets invaded you are willing to stand up and fight. Help and contribute time.
patriotism means do good things to your country. It also means be respectful to your country.
Patriotism is showing your care for a country that you love. Patriotism is willing to die fighting for your country or for what you believe in without regret, it is loving your country, it is standing up when your country is threatened, it is being proud of where you are from. I think that there are many ways to be patriotic and we all need to show it in some way especially now in this time of need and hope. That is what I think Patriotism
Being patriot is loving and feeling happiness in your country. Being free and just cherish where you live.
patriotism in my opinion is doing what is right for your country like if they say we need to go to war a patriot will stand up and go if they say that we need to do anything that involves helping this country they will do it. Thats what i think patriotism is.
Its serving your country by anyway you can, showing love for the country, having respect for troops, being proud of your country, and supporting your country with the decisions they make and just being happy with your country
what does patriotism mean to me? I think it means to be supportive of the country and be proud to be living in this country. just showing how much you love this country, celebrating the 4th of July and other American holidays. Also supporting our troops at war.
patriotism means respect your country on anything your country do. It also means do good things to your country.
Patriotism to me is loyalty and respect for your country. Giving all you support in what they do. The President may not be the one you voted for but you respect his or her decisions. Standing behind your country in every move they make no matter how much you disagree in what the country is doing. Supporting your soldiers. Believing in your country. Having love for it.
Patriotism is standing up for what you believe in, and not backing down. It stands for being a good citizen and supporting your troops and country. Its the pride you have for your country.
To me patriotism is not putting one hand over your heart, and the other over your mouth. Patriotism is knowing that your country may have flaws, but you still believe that things can get better. Patriotism isn't just waiting for your country to do something, it is doing what you can. You may not support the president or his beliefs, but that doesn't mean you should pretend you do to be 'patriotic'. Patriotism is supporting what the country stands for, and America stands for freedom of speech; so go ahead and voice your disappointment with the government. But don't sit around and do nothing about it.
Patriotism is standing up for and supporting your country. You can support the troops even if you do dont support what they are told to do. You also have to be proud of your country.
i think patriotic means you support youre country and help it as well.I think if you were born in a different country thats the country you support which only sounds fair but if you were born in amarica then you should support it and if not then im not sure why.
well to be hones i despise the direction america has turned the economic issues and the poverty alone detour my liking for this "great nation" i would ,personally, rather live in either europe or australia.
patriotism is serving your country. your country, my country, our country does so many things for us. i think that it would only be fair to give a little back. being patriotic is serving in the military or being a teacher. being patriotic is doing anything to benifit your country!
Patriotism means representing our freedom of our country. Being active in our country and loving it is a way to be patriotic.
Patriotism is showing your compassion to your country. Like how you help out your community or serving in the government. It is also honoring the soldiers that have died for the country.
Patriotism in America has meant many different things over the years. It has gone from serving in a war to supporting one, to now just wearing a flag on the 4th of July and watching the fireworks with your closest friends and family. To me however, it is something different entirely. Patriotism is standing up for what you believe in, whether it has to do with your country or not. For our country of course, being patriotic would mean supporting our troops, maybe voulenteering at the Veterans Hospital, possibly enlisting in the military, protesting for your rights or the rights of others, wearing your country's colors on the appropriate days, and celebrating the national holidays. But to me personally, it means being true to myself and my beliefs, never giving up, never giving in, and never backing down. I will never let another person tear me down, or convince me otherwise of something that I am sure is right, or believe with all my heart. I know many of you feel differently, but this is what patriotism means to US, is it not?
Patriotism is showing your compassion to your country. Like how you help out your community or serving in the government. It is also honoring the soldiers that have died for the country.
Patriotism, is the devoted love, support, and defense of one's country, national loyalty, Faithfulness, dependability, integrity, support, zeal, and reliability.
It is as simple as that. It si the love of your country, the devotion to your country, and the loyalty to your country!

Patriotism is a lot of things. I think that it means showing how much you love and care about your country. It is people who support everything that our government is doing and what our troops are doing. Patriotism is people that stick by our countries side even when things get bad. They hope for the best and believe in their country. Showing support for your country even in the smallest of ways, can be great.
