I am against sending more troops to Afghanistan although I am against war in general. Sending more troops doesnt help.
The troop with the burnt body was interesting to me. It showed an ugly side of the war.

I believe that Obama should not send any more troops to afghanistan. I know our intensions are good, but i think it is time to bring our boys home. It is obvious they dont wnt us there and all we are doing is getting hurt =[

I don't think that Obama should send in more troops to escalate the fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. The life of soldiers are not something that can be wasted and the way that we're sending in troops like nothing is wrong is horrible.

cfarquharson1 said...

i think that obama shouldnt send men to afgan. cause he should focus more on the problems that are on U.S. soil. like health care and our dropping economy. The soldiers there seem to be have things under control.

Brad Parker said...

I am for and against the shipment of more troops. Because there might be more casualties of both sides. There is no reason we should be in a war with the Afghanistan. But at the same time we are there yo stop the Taliban.

kpetersen1 said...

Yes, the more soldiers over the easier it will be to control the situation and reduce deaths. The reason soldiers die is because there aren't enough of them to make a difference. If the troops come home all progress will be reversed and the country will be just like it was before we came. The taliban has made a resurgence and the afganis can't handle them on their own. Besides, a lot of the soldiers like being there, they know a hell of a lot more than the people back home.

The taliban insurgent in the back of the truck is a reason to stay there, afgani troops don't have the training or experience to take the taliban reliably.

I think that he should not send more troops to Afghanistan because that would just cause more chaos and more people will end up getting hurt. i mean if he thinks its a good idea then he should go for it but i think its completely stupid and hes also being stupid about it. i sorta want him to but then again i don't have much to say!

Uhm, NO. My brother is in Afghanistan. Luckily, shockingly, he has slept through 2 mortar jumps. My friend Brandon is heading to Afghanistan currently and my ex, Mark, and my friend Cameron are going to Afghanistan soon. All four of them are in the Army and I miss them dearly. All of them are also age 19 and I do not believe that Obama should be sending such young men to a war that does not need to be escalating.

I am against Obama's decision on sending more troops to Afghanistan.I believe is about time to stop the war.It is also time for him to do something,he hasnt done anything important since his precidency.

Part one:
I don't think President Obama should send more troops to Afghanistan because too many people have already been sent out there and killed. It also is negative because these people have lives and families that are wanting them back as well.

mgriess said...

HELL NO!
why would we want to kill more of our people? the war was nessesary when the attacks on us happened from iraq, but not anymore, these wars have carried on tooo long!
we care killing TONS of people and its absolutly horrible.
i really would like to say, lets all get along but i know in reality its IMPOSSIBLE :(

umm as for a picture they were all pretty intense i couldn't choose one that i could describe. it looked like one brutal time in history, thats for sure.

I honestly don't think sending more troops is going to make things any better. Actually, I think it will make things worse. :/

I am against sending more troops to Afghanistan and continueing the war. It will only add the the fire of blood shed, and not do any good for either side. But i understand why Obama would sent more troops. Because we have been in war for a few years now, and we don't want to back out of something we have been battleing for so long.

I don think that Prez Obama should send any mhey shouldnt ore troops because were onlyloosing more troops and wasting money when almost no progress is being made.In this picture all the rebles just walk arond with ak's kie its another dAY at beach and to live like that

I don't want him to send in more troops there is enough there already.

I thought the little kid with the stuffed bunny showed how everyone is impacted in the war.

Kalene Romero said...

Absolutely not, a year ago he said he as going to get all the soldiers out of afghanistan if he became president and now that he became president he's not keeping his word, and i bet that's making a bunch of people mad. War in afghanistan is not doing anyone any good.

Tashena Smith said...

I believe Obama should not send any more troops to Afghanistan because that is going to be more families that will have to remorse their love ones death. All he is doing is sending more men to be killed.

floza said...

I think this move is wrong. There are enough people risking their lives out there. Plus soldiers will have to leave their families here not knowing what will happen.

agarcia77 said...

i dont think that we should not send more troops to afghanistan because we basically have the war under control over there. We dont here about any mass deaths on our side we jsut here about how well we are doing in the war so why should we send more there. If we add more people to the problem there just might be more a lot more deaths.
I dont think the pictures are that bad because thats war and i have seen a hell of a lot of worse pictures then that and i understand that they cant show us the really bad parts of war but i think that everyone knows what happens when it comes to war and the you look at these pictures and it really looks like everything is under control so we dont need any more troops there

MarcieR said...

I think he should send more. Only if it's needed though. If we are losing troops and everything then he should send more.

jack said...

I am against sending more troops to Alfghanistan. My first reason is that there are a lot of casualties.

PART ONE: I think President Obama should not send any more troops to Afghanistan. Having our troops there isn't helping at all so why would we send more? All it is causing is hurt for the families of the troops there. The president should focus on other things like fixing the economy and not bringing in any more troops. All it would do is cost more money and make life of the families of the soldiers more difficult. There is simply no point.

PART TWO: I chose picture 25.
It really caught my attention because of all the hurt you see. It really affects everyone when you have a loved one in the war. You can see how sad all the people are in the photo. No one should have to go through that. BRING OUR TROOPS HOME!

jcollins4 said...

I do not think that Obama should send any more troops out. If he does send out more troops they may be able to make a larger affect on the war and make more of a difference, but it is time for them to come home. Before Obama became president he promised to bring the troops home, but now that he has been elected president he wants to send more troops out? The men that are already out there have families and lives back home that they deserve to return home to.

justin_gibson said...

i think it would be really stupid if Obama were to send more troops i personally think he should be impeached he's an idiot that shouldn't have been voted in at all and that would just add to the insanity he's trying to become the next hitler. he's full of lies and false promises this war is ugly enough with the picture of that burned terrorist we just need to get it over with not add more this is on the brink of starting a new world war.

jdotson said...

Debate: i honestly can't say weather obama should send troops in or not. i don't really know the situation. on one hand i don't want our troops to die if its not necessary but on the other if we can help them then its wrong if we don't. im torn between morals. im glad that the decition is not mine to make.

Landin Hutchison said...

I think we should send the troops to Afghanistan. Although we are out numbered and the conditions there suck, i believe we can finish this war. There's no way were ever going to reason with them, they obviously hate America and at this point i think the only thing we can do is fight. Back in the American Revolution we stood up against Britain and beat them when we were outnumbered and less powerful. Why wouldn't we stand up to Afghanistan. Maybe if we do good enough they will just back down and the war can end and less people will have to die.

Image 38 with the dead suicide bomber was pretty messed up. I think if people would actually blow themselves up to hurt others then they have to really hate those people, which is why i believe we wont ever make peace with terrorists.

Kalene Romero said...

2. the picture where a afghan soldier and the american are facing each other, if you compare all the supplies the american has to the afghan, it just seems all so crazy, that there i even a war we obviously have more stuff, it's just not fair.

Demi S said...

I think that if sending more troops to Afghanistan will end the war, then it is necessary. However, I think that with the Taliban's intentions of extending and prolonging the war according to the article, it benefits no one and is just killing more of our soldiers.
I think that the picture of the really young little girl standing with troops shows the sadness of the war, and how even the youngest children are being effected. It's sad and unfair for them, and that's why I think the U.S. should do whatever possible to end the war.

Ian Erickson said...

i dont think that Obama should send more troops to Afganistan. We have been over there for years and even though he says that the end is near, it might not be. We should have listened to Washington and not included ourselves in foreign affairs.

#9- This miner is working in the coal mines everyday and in a month is only getting $70-$110 dollars. He doesnt have an air tank or anything and looks really dirty. He will likely keep this job just to provide for himself and his family. But Black Lung Cancer is a huge risk in the mines he will lkely have a shorter lifespan because of this.

Korey K said...

I believe that Obama's intentions of getting out of the war are all positive, and I know it wasn't his fault we got into this mess but it is his duty to listen to the people and do his best to retreat and let the people of Afghanistan rebuild their lives on their own. So if Obama thinks that more troops will ger us out in the long run, so be it.

picture #43- This picture speaks louder than words. It is a very emotional picture because it indicates that our soldiers are gradually fading away while in the war.

piercej said...

no we do not need them in afghan anymore they want us out but our government is ignoring them so we can feel like we did something "good".

i chose picture 8
it shows how we are "helping" the afghan government get rid of its drug and any other problems they have

Taylor P. said...

I think that we shouldnt send more troops over, but we should not take them home. Yes it is hellish over there and our troops probally miss home but its necessary to keep our country safe if we were to leave now it would be a matte fo time before a nther terrioist attack. Also just as a side note i think its toal buull crap that obama says that he is gonna bring our troops home but he sends more over there. what else is he gonna go back on his work on?

kbagby1 said...

I believe that President Obama is doing the best he can with what he's got, and I agree with his decision to deploy more troops, as long as he keeps good with his commitment to start bringing some home soon. There's really no way to know whether his decision will help or not unless we try so it's a good idea for him to go for it.
I found the picture of the troops questioning civilians interesting because it showed a scared little girl which shows that the troops are imposing and that it's not always a good thing.

i am split between yes and no. i believe that the war has been going on for much too long and i have lost a family member because of this war but at the same time we need to defeat the taliban while they are down. if we pull out now it will give them a new slogan to recrute young muslums. if we pull out they could say that they are the winning side, come join the winning side. if they recrute new members and regain control then we will have gon over thare for nothing, all the people that have died will have died for nothing, my cousin would have died for nothing! that would be worse than going there for one more year.

i picked the picture of the former taliban members handing over there wepons because it made me feel happy that we have gone over there and actualy made a diferance. we got someone to change their mind and convert to the good side!

Jared H. said...

Part one: Honestly, it's not our job to invade other countries, regardless of who happens to be there. If you're going to invade Afghanistan to eliminate the Taliban, then you better be willing to go to Darfur and fight the Janjaweeed. If you're not willing to go the whole way, then don't go at all.

Part two: The picture of the burnt suicide bomber's body, although disturbing, really doesn't hit any emotions for me. The Taliban and other militant factions aren't afraid of resorting to extremes, and the best thing to do is keep them as far away as possible. Let them fight each other, not our troops.

Picture #34:
This picture shows that you don't necessarily need to know what is going on in the war in order to be affected by it. Just looking at this picture is so sad! Innocent children who are totally oblivious to what is going on are being hurt.

#38 the burnt suscide terroist is he worst ont in my opinion it just gows to show how brainwashed these people are they go right outside militar bases and blow themselvs up. And for what 70 virgins oh wow real bid reward.

jdotson said...

Pictures: i couldn't possibly pick just one of these pictures to write about.
#12: I feel sorry for the children who are scared and confused about seeing big men with guns everywhere they go and even worse for those who are used to it. no one should live in a world where lugging around guns and seeing war is the norm.
#21 this is a bueatiful picture. i like it because i think that the soldier in the picture, for once, in most likely a great while, felt at peace.
#25 this picture tugs at my heart. to the right side of the picture is a women sobbing and barely able to stand and a crying man holding her up and trying to comfort her. she is in so much pain and there is no one and nothing that can take it away.
#35 i love how you can still find beauty in a time of war.
#41: if you saw this picture all by its self it wouldn't mean very much. Just children laughing and playing in the snow. but knowing what is going on around them is what makes this picture, this moment special. i hope that we never loose the joy that we have when we are young.
#43 i can't help but see the irony in this picture. it shows soldiers walking into a sand storm and disappearing and i can't help knowing that most of those soldiers will go into war and never come out.

cuhl1 said...

I don't support the war at all. I am for peace. I don't all out support Obama sending more troops to Afghanistan, but if it's needed I don't really have a say in it.

2. I chose picture 25 because it's depressing, and that's how the war can make people feel. No one should have to go through the sadness and having a close or loved one lose their lives.

cbeach said...

I don't agree with Obama's decision to send more troops into Afghanistan. I think it would only cause more problems between Afghanistan and the U.S., and eventually cause more problems within the U.S. itself. I think sending in more troops now would be waste.

I picked picture #12. It shows the more innocent side of war. When people think of the war, they mainly picture the bad guys. Bu this picture shows a side of the people that you don't normally think of. The small girl has no say in what is happening to her world around her, and shows people how innocent people who may no be fighting in the war are affected.

brefec said...

obama shouldnt send more troops to go the afghanistan...didnt he say he's gunna be pulling troops out of the war....anyways i understand u cant do that all that fast but to have more troops go there just doesnt seem right and it means that more of our troops will die

the picture with the little girl standing by some what seems like her parents and the army in front of her makes me feel sad for all the innocent people that get killed and are affected because of the war

Adrian A. said...

I don't think that Obama should send more troops because there has already been a lot of troops that have gone over there and a lot of them have died. I think that there has been enough progress over there that we could start bringing soldiers home. It is not fair for the families back home to know that their loved ones might have to go back and stay longer.

mmaloy said...

Why, why, why!? Must we be in this war still? It is so dumb, I hate it, I've always hated war, especially this one. It has gone on for far too long. I think we should be out of there this very instant, it scares me how long we've been in there. And every year it seems like a new reason. Oh they have nukes, oh they need help with the government. They all seem like a bunch of excuses to me! I respect what the soldiers are doing for us if they do have nukes and mass weapons but I think we should be out of there right now!
And for the pictures, all of them are pretty frightening from the suicide bomber to the little kids crying infront of soldiers. It all seems sickening and wrong, we are losing so many soldiers and many come back scarred for life. Marriages are being ruined, lives, people's loved ones are scarred. I just wish Obama would take us out of there! :(

vhernandez2 said...

After viewing those pictures from Afghanistan I don't think Obama should send in more troops. I think if he does send in more troops we are going to lose more troops at the end of this war. I also think it shows Afghanistan that we aren't able to help them because we have to send in more troops and it shows our weaknesses, but that's how i look at it. I think war is hell and if we want to get out of it we can't stay there.

Part Two: the Pictures

Picture 40 where some girls are at school saddens me that they don't have anything like we have to learn and get a proper education, but it also is upsetting because they aren't even sure if women should have schooling? Thats not acceptable and makes it even more difficult to hear things such as this.

Unknown said...

I do not think we should send more soldiers to Afganistan. It has not helped anything so far and they do not want us there. Bringing our troops home to their families, where they are actually needed, is the right thing to do.

I thought that picture 29 was heartbreaking...It just shows that we send our troops into dangerous places where they are not welcome or wanted and the result is death. It tears appart families and futures.

Elizabeth S. said...

I think Obama shouldn't send more troops to Afghanistan because if there is more troops there is a chance for more deaths.

I couldn't really pick one picture, all of them are really intense and sad. But the ones with the children in them would probably be my chose, because at such a young age those kids have to go through things like that. Its not a good atmosphere for them to be growing up in.

ArianaCaballero said...

i believe that it is unnecessary for U.S to send more troops into Afghanistan. considering that afghanistan's stradegy is to wait out the war and let the U.S surrender, I believe there is no danger and do not encourage sending more troops in. I believe that waiting out the war is not very intelligent on their part, due to the costs and time of war and considering that afghanistan is the third poorest country in the world. Therefore sending more troops in would be useless because all they would be doing is servielling and be put in danger every minute they were there. keeping a steady number of troops, like we have been, would be best for us. although ending the war all together sounds appealing, we should think about all the danger we would be putting soldiers in.

I do not think Obama should send more troops. Our means are to help which we are and we know that the people of their country appreciate it but we suffer as our own country. It is good that we aren't being selfish and we're looking out for others but war will not end our problems, just prolong them. Then again I understand we can't just back down from this because we would receive a counter attack.

All the pictures mean something to me but mostly the ones where you can feel the pain being brought through, like the memorial services.

ejones3 said...

I do not believe Obama should send more troops to any country. Especially not a country were the other soldiers sacrifice themselves in the form of a running bomb into groups of soldiers. We are in debt as it is and right when people had some hope at raising up out of the fog we are going to send more troops(spend more money)! I believe Obama was handling our situation pretty well at first but I belive this may be the first in a costly chain of bad choices.

Tanner Sherlock said...

I do not agree with Obama on his decision what so ever. My cousin has been stationed in Afganiston so I know how it feels to be worried about what will happen. His decision to send more troops just makes me worried about all the families that will be without their son, husband, father, or cousin. I think our time in Afganistan has ran out and our soldiers should come home.

Chelsea Gazia said...

I believe sending more troops to Afghanistan will help. Many countries and people have already or are entering the war. They believe theres a reason for being there and if they didn't people would not have entered to serve for our country. I believe war is needed thats how we obtained our freedom and it should continue even if families miss their soldiers. The fact that they don't want us there is more the reason we should be there. When children, druggers, abused or neglected people say I don't need help is when you help them most so why not bring that philosophy to Afghanistan? They need us there despite bitterness or disapproval of our going and helping them out.
