In Washington's Farewell speech, he warned about the following:

Washington also warned of “the baneful effects of the Spirit of Party”—one of the two most famous recommendations of the Farewell Address (along with a warning about permanent alliances). By party, Washington meant factious groups that sought their own good, to the detriment of the common good and the rights of others. The proliferation of faction or party in this sense was a dominant question of his presidency. He spoke of designing men, who would divide sections of the country as a means to their own political power. The factions of the 1790s foreshadowed those of the Civil War.
It would seem that it also foreshadowed today's government division of parties which has lead to the shutdown

Also, the Federalist Party was worried about the uneducated masses controlling the country. Do you feel it should be mandatory to be educated about the propositions, bills and people running for office before letting them vote?

i think that you should need a certain education the be able to vote because if a bunch of stupid people were voting than we wouldn't get the smartest decisions. Maybe a certain card that says you can vote.

I think it would be dangerous: with the government in shutdown, who will be able to enforce the laws? If anything, republicans should just accept the Obama Care Act because healthcare can then become more affordable for those who can't afford it at all.
Having education in order to vote actually sounds like a good idea: if people are educated, they'll be able to think more about voting before they actually do cast their vote. An uneducated vote, well, that could simply lead to trouble, if you know what I mean.

For our government to shut down because of a bill is idiotic, why should we need to shut down and risk payment of bills and get appliances shut off for non payment. We should see who votes on the presidents or who is running for president to look at his past history.
I think that people should have at least a high school diploma or a GED before taking part in a vote. I also think that people should embrace the shutdown because there is little that they can do.
I don't truly see that much of a way American citizens can help with the government shutdown. But as far as uneducated minds controlling our country I do agree that that can come along as a threat. If citizens are voting on a person, bill, or proposition, without having a clue in the world what any of those are asking for, what is the point of them actually putting their vote in the ballot box? Just because they have the right and privilege to?
My opinion of the government shutdown is that everyone that runs the government is acting irrationally. We can all come to disagreements but it's not necessarry to shutdown the gov. and lose a ton of money and jobs.We need to be able to come to a common ground. People also should be educated about the government in order to be able to know what they are voting for and be aware of who runs the country. It is silly to think our own citezens don't know who runs the country. We should all learn and create our own thoughts and opinions.

I Believe the Government shutting down is good so thry can make themselves better, But its also bad because for the people who have jobs and families to support..wont be paid.

Half the people in America dont know how or why their voting for people. I think that more people should be educated before we put the country in someones hands just because they think their cool. They need to know the facts and opinions of them. Education is a very important especially when it comes to politics. The government should something about all these uneducated people and their dumb choices
I think the government should have not shut itself down on purpose because I believe that they think it is about them and they are being selfish. Now that they shut the government down the national parks are closed, government officials are not being paid but at the same time I think the American people should stay out of the governments business because even if we did TRY to get involved the government would not let us do it.
I think everyone who wants to vote should be of a certain level of education about the government.

I think that uneducated people are the reason the government shut down. if i asked some random person what kind of health care they had. they would most likely say some sort of government funded healthcare or private healthcare. you would be surprised how many people have some sort of government healthcare and not know it. if you don't know even what kind of health care you have then you shouldn't be able to even have a say on anything that affects other peoples healthcare. if you don't know what your talking about you shouldn't get to vote on it.
1) I think that the government shutting down is a completely unnecessary and teenage-girl-like thing to do. You can't just shut something down because you don't like what's happening. Most people write off Obamacare simply because it has the name Obama in it. If people took the time to educate themselves, they'd realize that it's not a negative thing.
2) I think that is should be necessary for people to be educated about the propositions before voting. There are so many uneducated people in the word that just jump on the bandwagon that it could make a huge difference when it comes to voting and ultimately make a decision that isn't the right one.

I feel like the government shutdown is just stupid. The government should not shut down and put people out of jobs because they can not agree Obama Care. I think the the American people should be able to voice their opinion on what they think the government should do. Jacob I agree with you 100% that most of the people who vote do not know who or why they are voting. Voting is a privilege you do not have to do it.
I think that it truely sucks that it shut down and affects a lot of aspects of the everyday american. i think that the government should have resolved their problems before they started. The Americans should take an easy and stop to think and figure out how to make this work and boot the government back up. They should work together to get a better running machine that is well oiled.
The voting topic has me both ways i think that everyone should be able to vote but the ones that count would be from the educated.They should be tested on what they know about the topic voted on and if they succeed then their vote will count. Uneducated people may vote as a whole for a certain amount of votes, majority vote that is put into the running so everyone can vote.

My opinion about the shutdown is, that it is not helpful for america , because also the national parks are closed and so america cant earn money with that and that is why it will be difficult with the time to pay back borrowed money from other governments.
I think everyone who is in a good mental health has the right to vote, also when they are not informed or interested, but it is not good.But they can change every time there decision and can get informed, so it is not good to forbid them to vote.

My opinion on the government shutdown is foolish. They main reason why they shutdown is because of Obamacare/Affordable heath care act. Some people without the money cant afford "regular" medical.
I feel only people with some kind of education should be able to vote, so we don't have people without one, voting for whats not right and what we don't need.

There are no private doctors in Canada. If you are sick, there is a 6 month wait to get a checkup. If our country allows these same laws, our taxes would go up, doctor's salaries would plummet, and we would have a corrupt healthcare system.

Honestly, i would very much like the government to shut down, i hope these systems that have been running our lives crumbles, i hope that other countries try to take advantage of our situation and makes the government fall. i hope our nation falls into anarchy so these ignorant lazy people who only see things in black and wight so they will know what we humans really are. on the terms of education i feel if wen are a nation of freedom, then as a free people we should be aloud to learn what we please after the basics. if we only worked on what interests us instead of having to know all this other crap we don't even want to learn about, then by the time we got our jobs we would have a life times worth of experience with it. i want to be a zoologist and have loved animals sense i could remember and if i had spent all the time learning these individual subjects i don't care about instead on studying nothing but animals i could have already been qualified as a scientist by now...
