School Uniforms
Read the following article:
1. Should students have to wear uniforms in school? WHY/WHY NOT? You must site the article in your response at least twice.

I say no because it isn't the teacher's right to determiner what us kid will and wont wear at school. If a uniform was on campus then you could only wear it for about 2 days of the week. So what's the point in having a uniform on campus if the students aren't going to wear them.
I do not agree with having school uniforms in a public school. I agree with the article when it said that enforcing the uniform rule will violate the student's right to freedom of expression. The article said that even though school uniforms were proven to have higher graduation and attendance rates, it still has no affect on the student's academic performance. Personally, I think that wearing school uniforms can bring down a students self confidence and comfortability. that's why there shouldn't be school uniforms in public schools.
School uniforms do not make school better due to the fact that many students express themselves through their clothing. The article states that school uniforms are difficult to enforce in public schools. I agree with this for the reason that many students are not self-disciplined and they would be so upset about the issue that they simply wouldn't wear the uniforms. The article also gives reason why uniforms should be worn. One part says that uniforms increase a sense of school pride. I highly disagree with this because class colors increase school spirit and with uniforms, students cannot have spirit weeks.
1] We as students shouldn't wear school uniforms, since it doesn't give us the right of freedom to express ourselves. On the site I do see why they want us to wear school uniforms like for these reasons • Help prevent gangs from forming on campus
• Encourage discipline
• Help students resist peer pressure to buy trendy clothes
• Help identify intruders in the school
• Diminish economic and social barriers between students
• Increase a sense of belonging and school pride
• Improve attendance
But all of that will probalpy won't apply that much at all, thats why I say we shoudln't wear school uniforms since of many things like we can get bullied alot more, We can express ourselves and not act like walking bandaids for the school. This and many more reasons we shouldn't wear school uniforms.
I don't think that we should forced to wear a school for three different reasons one is that it is supposed to keep kids from making gangs in schools but it will probably make the kids wearing uniforms more prone to bullying from other kids from other school, they can be a serious financial burden for poor family that are barely able to pay the bills, and they are a direct violation of a citizen's freedom of expression.
Students shouldn't wear school uniforms because is a financial burden to other families, violates freedom of expression, unfair additional expense for parents who pay taxes for a free public education and difficult to enforce in public schools it will just end up in a fight.
I don't have a strong opinion for either side. I like wearing my normal clothes but, if like the article says, wearing a uniform would improve my attendance, than I would be all for giving it a shot. However, it is violating the students right to express themselves like the article says and that may cause a problem with some parents.
Uniforms should not be required, because it does not allow people to freely choose what they want to wear. All citizens should at least have the freedom to chose what they want to wear. As the article says, some students may not have the money to buy uniforms, because they are expensive, which would cause them to get in trouble or get made fun of for not having a uniform, or having an old one that is used. Although there should not be uniforms, there should indeed be a dress code. Dress codes allow students to wear what they want, as long as what they wear is appropriate and does not go against the rights of other people.
under pros and cons it says that that uniforms will nearly be imposable to enforce at a school. also if the average student does wear the uniform you would have to buy at least 5 sets of them to wash and poor people might not be able to afford them.
Students should have to wear uniforms while at school. Agreeing with what President Clinton had to say, he made a good point; "If it means teenagers will stop killing each other over designer jackets, then our public schools should be able to require their students to wear school uniforms". In today's society, majority of students itch to have the best of the best name brands and to wear what is currently trending. For the other students however, could care less about top notch name brands and just want to express themselves without the pressure of their peers. This being said, a perk of having to wear school uniforms at school is that students should have an "increased sense of belonging". School uniforms honestly should not be an issue for students. It would save so much time in the morning, knowing already ones outfit for the day. Althought enforcing school uniforms would increase the pay on taxes for a free public education, it would benefit both the students and their families. Parents would not have to worry about spending so much money on back to school clothes and having their child nag them about buying knew outfits because their "old" ones are not trending anymore. Wearing school uniforms would be a wonderful thing; a win win situation for all.
So I believe uniforms are a good idea because with the uniforms it creates a sense of unity between the students also it can help identify intruders because they are not wearing the uniform. But uniforms do violate a students right to freedom of expression which isn't cool
I believe that uniforms should not be a school policy. Without evidence I would like to first state my own opinion on the subject. Uniforms are expensive, not original, and unflattering. As stated in the article, uniforms "Violate a student's right to freedom of expression" and now no one is an individual. We have been taught all our lives to be original and be who we want, what fun is it when we all start to look alike? Originality disappears and not to mention money. Uniforms can be very expensive, especially when you have to get multiply pieces to match the weather changes. As stated from the article, uniforms "Are a financial burden for poor families". It would be saddening if all Christmas presents turned into new uniforms and supplies. But all in all, uniforms do not belong in public schools. There is no improvement that records show and there won't be any ever. Uniforms do not make school better.
I say no because it takes away students right to express what they feel by wearing whatever they want on school campus. I don't believe that making students wear uniforms was the purpose for students attendance that just sounds absurd.
I believe that school uniforms are not necessary and we should not have to wear them. The article told a story about a San Diego kid who was wearing an anti- President Bush shirt. The school got upset and took it to the supreme court. The court ended up upholding the students freedom of speech and was allowed to wear the shirt. I agree with the supreme court on this issue and that students should be able to wear what they would like. According to the article wearing uniforms can prevent gang violence and helps to encourage discipline. I believe that this does not effect how a student will behave. If a student is already a good student a uniform is not going to change how they act and vice versa. A researcher David Brunsma did a research on this issue and concluded that there was no positive correlation between school uniforms and school safety. In conclusion I believe that students should be able to wear what ever they would like.
I do not believe school uniforms would be reasonable. There really aren't too many cliques/gangs separated by the clothes they wear. In my personal experience, nobody has gotten bullied due to the clothes they wear, unless it was teasing jokingly. A dress code is perfectly fine, as long as it is not super strict. One may feel very restricted if they are forced to wear the same clothing daily. In the case of Toledo students being able to wear a certain amount of different colors, that is still pretty restrictive, but not as bad as the same clothing daily.
I personally believe that school uniforms are not needed to help improve academics in schools in America. David Brunsma, a professor at the University of Missouri, did a study with two very large data bases. He found that "there is no correlation between school uniforms and academic achievement and school safety," This means that there is no reason to force a universal uniform upon students at a school. Not only that, but schools already have specific dress codes prohibiting things like "alcohol and drug references," These restrictions help keep students protected form inappropriate images, thus rendering School Uniforms useless.
In my opinion, public schools should make students wear uniforms. On page three, Virginia Draa makes the statement that uniforms increased the attendance and graduation of students as well as decreasing suspension rates. Overall there were no signs of academic changes. The only reason I would be against uniforms is because of the denial of speech. On page 2 they talk about how a young girl wore a pair of Tigger socks and was suspended for it. To be suspended for wearing patterned socks is ridiculous and just unfair.
Students should wear school uniforms because, as the proponents in the article states "Help identify intruders in the school". Also it would "increase a sense of belonging and school pride". Is it really that hard to comply with wearing a polo shirt and khakis for 6 1/2 hours out of the day?
I believe that might as well wear uniform to school because we have a dress code anyway and that also keeps you from not wearing what you really want to school. On the second page of this article it says "dress codes are nearly as strict"you can't really wear what you want to school. It also is a lot more safe to wear uniform at school. It is listed as one of the pro's on the first page. "Help prevent gangs from forming on campus. I also think everyone would be equal and kids wouldn't get bullied for the type of clothing they wear.
i agree with school that believe "students should have proper attire that doesn't offend any students or adults". But that doesn't mean they cant choose how they would like to dress. "It can be a burden for some less fortunate families" who cant afford uniform clothes and regular clothes.
I say no because the school has no right to what we wear and when we cant.I believe we should be able to walk on campus and wear a nice tee and nice shoes and shorts. If i ever had to wear a school uniform i probably would move school and and report a complain the that school district because no way ill ever wear a ugly blue shirt with khakis pants and some ugly plain black shoes.I feel if i was in the position i would be very unconformable.

i think students should not have to wear school uniforms because i feel like you should be able to wear what ever you want i thin a dress code should still be in place on the articular it says by wearing a school uniform it violates the students right to freedom of expression. that one bullet point should say it all we have rights and i don't thin that they should be taken away.another key point that the artrical mentioned was that i would be hard for the non wealthy family's to buy school uniforms.
I say no because Students cant express how they feel nor be them selves. Students would disobey the rule.

I do not agree because having school uniforms in school public just does not work because if the kid wears the uniforms then the kid will not wear it the next because the generation in this day is where kids do not like to wear sir nit stuff like uniforms and others so i recommend not wearing school uniforms just to make it better.
Student should not be required to wear uniforms in school. In the article "Do uniforms make a school better," a list of pros and cons to wearing a uniform at school is stated saying that a pro to wearing a uniform is "Diminish economic and social barriers between students, improve attendance, and help prevent gangs from forming on campus." However, I do not count these statements to be true. It is my belief that what a student wears has nothing to do with the social and economic barriers between student but more of the student's personality. Students in today's society are not all judgmental on the kind of clothing others wear to which stereotypes place us. To say that forcing students to wear school uniforms will improve attendance follows along with the writer of this article's opinion instead of facts. It is my opinion as a student that forcing a student to wear school uniforms will make them not want to come to school and, unfortunately, skip their classes. Also, in the pros list in this article they state that making students wear school uniforms will prevent gangs forming on campus but, in the cons list in that same article they state that uniforms "are simply a Band-Aid on the issue of school violence." I believe that giving students a right to wear what they want and express themselves and find out their interests. For example, today, as I write this article, am wearing American flag print sweat pants because they are comfortable and they are my favorite pair of pants. I do not wear them because I think it will make me look cooler in front of my fellow classmates, but because they perfectly show my silly and loud personality.
no because the students will not wear the uniform to school, the students will want to wear there cool and nice fashion clothes to school.
I think no because even if we have to wear a uniform some teenager will still act the some. The article said Help identify intruders in the school some friend from other school can wear the same uniform and pretend they go to that school and like other school it better to use ID and they will know who goes to that school. Then the article said Improve attendance that really doesn't matter because some teenager really don't care about their attendance and the uniform will not change their personality.

I do agree with having school uniforms because people would be forces on school work then how people looks and what they wear. I agree with the article when it will improved graduation and attendance rates. I also agree with the article that uniforms do not improve school safety or academic discipline because of most people hurting people
the pros tho wearing a school out is being able to id. kids who go to that school, its keeps kids from feeling like they need to buy trendy clothes and in some way it make people equal and it can help make friends with people you probably woudent have if you wore different clothes
the cons to this though is that youre basically labeling kids and making them feel like they're a prisoner in jail because thats what prisoners do they all wear the same uniforms and all hang in different groups. Even if you think clothes will hide who these kids are at school what will happen when a few kids decide to go the mall on a Saturday and some kids dress poppy and the other half are gothic and the other half are hipster they soon start to not like each other because the resemble a different nature of the other kids plus not to mention its just going to be harder finding friends who are the same as you because we all look the same how can we distenguise the difference between each other if we all look the same its like were robots with all work and no play
I agree with wearing school uniform. At first time I came to this school in here, I was so surprised. I didn't surprise at do not wearing school uniform. The reason I surprise was, the student wear something too unlike with students. I totally agree with respecting students' characteristics, but if they wear something undue, and teacher cannot control it, I just agree with school uniform. In Korea, every middle and high school including any public or private school has their own school uniform. While I went to middle, and high school in Korea, I could realize it has more pros than cons. It increase a sense of belonging and school pride, help us behave more proper in uniform. Also it diminishes economic and social barriers between students. If students disagree wearing uniform because of their freedom of expression, and own characteristics, there are some other ways to express their characteristic, such as hair style, backpack, accessories, shoes, and so on. So I agree with wearing school uniform.

Yes because it saves you money. Either way, there's limit to how you want to express yourself. And plus it has to go with the schools dress code. So might as well wear a uniform.
I Say Yes, Because how in the article its says it help to see if you go to the school and not be form another school.
Also how in the article says it helps identify intruders in the school.
But i also say no, because if the students are not going to wear them then what's the point on having uniforms.
I believe that public schools should not have students wear uniforms. I think students should be able to wear what they want as long as it is aloud. I do think private charter and catholic schools are able willing to have uniforms but uniforms are not for everyone. In the article they said many kids wear inapropriate things to school and that this should be fought with strict dress code.I think there should be no uniforms but still a dress code for everyone.
