STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS JANUARY 2011
Last Tuesday, President Obama gave the State of the Union Address.
1. What do you feel is the biggest problem the United State is facing? Why? Did President Obama address this issue in his speech? If so, what did he say?
2. Using you summary find two topics mention at the address that you find important and give a quick response to why?
3. Find two topics that you find upsetting, give a quick response to why you feel this way.

1. The biggest problem in my opinion, is the economy, and yes, it was addressed.
2. The war, and jobs. I heard that he was trying to get all of the troops to cease fire, and they did in one country, and this year will be returning home, however in other countries the troops are still using force to "wipe out terrorism". And the jobs, Obama has done a great job trying to supply enough jobs to eliminate unemployment, but the rate has only gone down .6% in a year, and he produced like 500,000 jobs? So he's done well, just not well enough.
3. I don't find any of the topics particularly upsetting.
1. In my opinion and from what i've seen and watched people experience in their lives, i'd say economic depression. Reason being that with how things are going and people losing things such as houses and cars, people will not only lose that but also their faith and patriotism in our country. Yes, he did address it but i don't think it is being fixed as fast as it should be.
2. The War- Great ideas and a topic, War is avoidable unless it's 100% necessary.
Economic growth- Needs to go faster and more efficiently. We need to have a stable economic society.
3. Economic growth because, in my eyes we are trying to fix it but not fast or good enough. the more time we spend trying to fix it, in that time we are losing more and just still where we were the day before.
Nuclear Power?! Why would you make more power that no one can afford to use or invest in or use. Total waist of money and time at this time in our country.
1. The biggest problem that I think the United States is facing right now is its economy, we are heading for depression people! I never watch T.V so yep, I have no idea what he said in his speech.
2. Again I didn't watch his speech, I do not watch T.V like everyone,
3. Failure to recover- I am very disappointed at Obama he has been in office for three years and he has yet to recover us from heading into another Great depression.
Unemployment Rate- The unemployment rate is higher than the first Great Depression, Obama needs to help Americans find jobs or even make more jobs ( if that is possible ) so we can get out of this depression. If we do not get out of it soon, then it will be most likely America will fall into the ground just like the Roman Empire.
The biggest problem the U.S. is facing is the economy, we still are in a recession but it isn't as much anymore.Obama wanted to make it clear that he is trying to help with the issues and that the government isn't that much in debt anymore.
It's important that we get out of this recession and the government starts using the money more responsibly instead of just buying useless things.. they bought those crosswalk talking boxes now for handicapped people, but didn't they know how to cross before that? Like it isn't that big of a deal but they probably cost a couple million for all crosswalks. Another thing that I find important is the soldiers from afghanistan coming home in August, that to me was incredibly good news, now they can be home with their family.
Two topics that upset me were he is still going through with the healthcare, yeah I understand that he wants everyone to be insured but some people really can't afford it along with their other bills and now they will have to find a way to. I don't have another issue, I pretty much said everything that was on my mind at the moment.
The biggest problem that we Americans face today is, the employment issues. President Obama did address this issue by stating that he wants to pass a bill so that we can address the problems that we face. He wants this bill wrote out and on his desk immediately.
Well I think that the health insurance reform and the terms of employment were important issues. These are important because we need health insurance and employment.
The issues on the global economy and the comprehensive energy and climate bill annoyed me because it sounds lie we are going to be spending lots of money on these topics and we could instead use that money somewhere else in our economy.
I agree with Obama, because he states all of our society problems and states that we can all work together to fix them. I also agree that the economy is our biggest issue but just as Obama said he has never been more hopeful about America's future.pydikhaj4

1. I feel that the biggest issue our country is facing as of now, is most definitely the economy. People keep on saying the economy is bad and it will only keep on continuing to get worse. Why it is the biggest problem, because so many people are now out on the streets homeless. He said specifically in the article that the current period that we are at leads all the way back to the stock market crash.
2. One of two topics mentioned that I found important was economic growth because well isn't that exactly what we need right now? It is the only last resort left in the basket and we need it now. The other I found important was the health insurance reform. We all know that health is expensive now a days and some can not even purchase it. However, with his "new plan", every American will be protected...
3. Two topics I found upsetting were the increase in nuclear power and what will happen to the unemployed. For the increase in nuclear power, it said that he encourages more offshore drilling which made me think, wasn't there an oil spill not to long ago? For the unemployed deal, he said that two million will be left unemployed with out help from the recovery act. He claims that jobs are the number one focus of 2010, but does that mean that it will happen? Changes do not come fast enough I guess...
I think the biggest problem is that the republicans and the democrats don't work as one brain together and wile they try to decide what to do the country keeps going down and one of thous issues that is very important is the inmigration issue because in my point of view inmigrants bring the U.S.a big help in the market and that helps the economy to rise and the way America will grow and be like it use to be before a prosper country, because moust inmigrants help this country more than what the government thinks.
The biggest issue facing America and it's citizens is big government. Our government believes that it's duty is to babysit us and fix ALL of our issues. Well, wake up everyone, because you know who is really supposed to fix our problems? We are. When major companies are in danger of crumbling to the feet of and economic powerhouse such as the U.S. who is supposed to save it? The government... Or themselves? A smaller government and more responsible America would bring that huge deficit down into more of a bite we can handle, It would eliminate any argument about healthcare. But as it is now the U.S. government has it's festering, vile hands in ever single cookie jar. They run the Post Office, The MVD, National Healthcare, Social Security, Medicare. They're in our schools, our places of work, everywhere. However, I know I sound like a soothsaying anarchist, but I'm not, I just believe America needs to follow it's roots. Our founding fathers Intended this country to resemble anarchy more then monarchy or democracy. Obama has yet to address this issue because it would hurt his precious ego and public image to admit such a thing. It would affect any politician very similarly. BUT IT NEEDS TO BE DONE. The American people need to show that they are RESPONSIBLE , that they can look out for each other, and aide each other, and run their own lives, rather then have big government do it for them.
1. I think the biggest problem we have today is the economy and yeah it was addressed and it just said that there has been tax cuts and unemployment benefits have been extended.
2. Getting the troops out of Iraq and help for the unemployed I find important because I think the troops should come home and the jobs and economy are not doing well and need help.
3. Two topics I find upsetting that he talked about is the Health care, I think he should of talked more about the health care problem and I dont like the increase of nuclear power plant construction.
1) I think the biggest problem this country is facing is, indeed, the economy. I know many people without jobs or who have gotten layed off. My family's small bussiness struggles to maintain itself, too. Obama stated it himself, as he called it the "most urgent issue when he took office." He reported that it was getting better, saying how unemployment would have increased if the bank bailout had not happend and that most of the money has been recovered.
2) Like in one, I find the economic solutions/problems he mentioned are important and they are important to my family and I, personally, the same reason I stated in 1. Then the proposition of 30 billion dollars from bank tax helping banks give out loans is also important because thats ALL we need... more loans. Honestly, I don't think people would be able to pay back those loans so easily and the 30 bil would have been wasted and the GREAT depression would happen all over again. I dunno, that's just how I feel; call me a pessimist, I embrace that.
3) 2 topics of my choice? Well, for one, I find the fact that Obama broke his promise to the Armenians by saying the genocide was not a genocide, but a tragedy. Honestly, even if it happened 100 years ago, it was still inhumane slaughter and the reason behind it was "oh, it was just war." If that was just "war," could we deem Darfur a genocide? How about Sudan? We even promised Armenia we would step up and and help them repair 100 years ago and we NEVER did. Even today, the country is still broken.
The next topic I would like address is wellness for drug addicts. I have to admit, I have had a lot of people I know come and go in my life who were addicted to a lot od certain crap. They've all said the same thing about getting well... There are not very many affordable nearby rehabilitation centers, so why should they even try to get well? They don't want to leave their homes and can't afford it. If we could possibly add or improve centers, I'm sure Meth abuse would decrease significantly. Especially here in Arizona, centers are scarce.
@Sean,
I agree with you that Obama has done not well enough, but changes don not come as fast enough, do they now?
1. I think the biggest issue the economy. yea he addressed it.
2. The war-War is important but he said he was gunna be pulling troops out and stop fire.
Unemployment-He suggested that more than two million people would be unemployed without recovery act money pent by the government during his term.
3. I felt nothing was like drastically upsetting
I think the most important issue the united states is facing is the 'war on terror'. although i understand why people are in distress about the low employment rates and the the current economy crash we are forgetting there are still thousand of men and woman off shores fighting and dying for our freedom. This is one of the last things President obama addresses in his speech. he sates that 'all troops will be out of iraq by august of this year".
1.I personally feel the most important conflict that the United States is facing is illegal immigration.
2. I find that an important part was the proposal to increase the number of nuclear power plants, increase off shore oil drilling and the increase in development of bio fuel and charcoal. These are important because they help with advancement in technology but also store the potential to lower prices and change modern marketing practices. I also feel that there is moderate hypocrisy with the US being able to build multiple nuclear power plants without question even though we are strongly against/help in the prevention of other countries.
b) One of the most important things that he proposed was to not help his bill to help with unemployment. The main factor that seemed to be a good idea was not to reward or supply benefits to the companies that outsources but to help employers that use American employees within the United States.
3. a)Something that is not entirely appreciated is the 25 tax cuts that were placed. Cutting taxes means funds go down which means that programs that should be available are shut down. Specifically in Arizona the funding for Arizona Schools.
b) I personally don't feel that there should be that much of an incentive for people who go to college.
I feel that the biggest issue the United States is facing would be the economic recession. As much as we say that "money can't buy happiness", it certainly can improve things a bit. Obama tackled the issue of the recession by breaking it down in mini-sections, including an increase in employment, to pass healthcare reform, and to lower income taxes. He said these issues will be fixed. Ever since I was a little girl, I have been told that things will get better, everything will be alright. President Obama should understand that if a 17 year old girl feels skeptical in accepting his speech wholeheartedly, that maybe there are many others in the nation that feel this way as well.
It is important that Obama mentioned the fact that he is working on improving the rate of unemployment. Even my family has been effected by the nation's rate of unemployment, and it is nice to hear that issue will be tackled. Also, I embrace the positive words that he said about difficulties "test the courage of our convictions" and how he "does not accept second place for the United States of America". Even though these phrases are flamboyant and hard to believe, it is nice to hear that in a nation where so many have given up hope, there is still someone who cares.
I found both the bank taxes and how the soldiers in Iraq will be out by August upsetting. The bank tax seems to be an upsetting way to fix the issues with the economy in America, because if banks cannot handle the tax, and collapse, then chaos would occur as we tried to pick up the pieces of our money that has been lost. As for the soldiers, I have heard many times that our troops will be out of Iraq. I would like a president who actually sticks to what he says, and I will believe that we will be out of Iraq when I see it.
Sean- I agree, Obama could be trying harder.
1. i think the biggest problem is the economy. Obama suggested ways that he wants to help with the economy.
2. health insurance and jobs. health insurance and jobs are harsh thes days. hard to find a job.
3. didn't find anything upsetting.
1) I would say the immediate problem this nation is facing is of course the economic crisis, and the long term problem would be the state of our education. well economics of course effects every one it just when times are hard it most definitely sucks, and the state of our education is disturbing because if we don't get our act together we will most definitely be out done not only as in academics but virtually in the sense of our current position in this world as a power. Yes he did address the issues, he virtually stated that yes we need to improve and that with time and work the economic situation should heal.
2)i guess i actually answered that one in the previous statement.
3)They would be health care reform and the non-excitant tax increases. Health care reform is disturbing to me because that most definitely over steps the appropriate boundaries that our national government should be operating in. the stupid tax joke up-set me because that just makes me feel that he's an individual that just doesn't follow thru with anything he say, but i am still extremely happy that income tax didn't go up:)
1. One of the biggest problems is sources of energy. Obama spoke about it briefly. He said that he highly encourages researching new processes for power plants and advanced biofuel.
Brandon Andrews
1. The biggest problem the United States is facing is a recession and steep unemployment rates along with it. This is the largest problem because the economy is suffering massively and the U.S. is digging further into debt and decreasing in positive economic activity. Obama did address this matter in his speech by announcing statistics and objectives they have accomplished, such as the bank bailout which save many jobs, and goals for the future, such as passing a jobs bill right away, extending unemployment benefits, and creating a bank tax to help the economy.
2. One topic addressed was the movement towards clean energy, such as an increase in nuclear power plant construction, offshore drilling and gas development, advanced bio fuel and coal technology, and the passing of a comprehensive energy and climate bill. This is important because our nation will be able to reduce reliance on foreign energy sources and lighten our dependance on energy methods harmful to the Earth.
Another topic addressed in his speech was that of suggesting an incentive of $10,000 fir families who support their children through 4 years of a college education, and the government paying for 10% of post graduate student loan payments. This is important because it would relieve some pressure off families who strive to better themselves with an education, and creates incentive to achieve higher education.
3. I find the topic of our economy upsetting. I do not agree with bailing out those who spent irresponsibly. They made their mistakes, we as a country should not throw more money into a sinking corporation, but let them fall or figure out their situation on their own in the hopes that they will learn their lesson. Also, the government should prepare for the literal reset of our economy by passing bills that protect those who are not responsible for our economic recession, and punish those who are. Lastly, the government should prepare for the future businesses that will rise out of the ashes of failed ones, knowing that times may become harsher, everyday would be a step towards rebuilding our economy and we would all learn our lesson on irresponsible spending.
Another topic that concerns me is the health care bill. Universal health care would be nice, but not under the circumstances that our government plans to enforce. First, our government will have power over the choice of who actually receives medical attention or not, and second, it is against our constitution to incriminate anyone for not paying money for something they do not want, which many states have realized and are now protecting themselves and refusing the bill.
The biggest problem that America is facing right now is the the economy. The economy is down right now and with the economy down if this keeps up we well have another great depression. this what i think is the most important "men proclaim as their opinions upon the street" and the other is some will wish one nation, other another, to succeed in the momentous struggle"
because there talking about how America is dealing with this right now.
1. The biggest problem faced by the United States is the state of our economy and unemployment. This was addressed by Pres. Obama.
2. Getting the troops out of Iraq by August 2011 is a great goal that Obama set for the US, and if he remains true to his word, that will be the best thing he can do for the US.
3. The only topic I found upsetting was that unemployment benefits have been extended; it is important to support people who legitimately can't work for a living, but extending benefits to those who don't really need them won't help the economy or those people find jobs.
I think the biggest problem in a America today is the economy. Obama is going to make us have another great depression. I didn't watch the speech. But I think Obama is trying the best he can to make things better. The world isn't perfect, it still needs lots work. the topics he talked about didn't really upset me just made me think about what needs to be done.
I feel the biggest problem America is facing now is that everyone is financially stressed. It's hard to find a job nowadays & there are many who are still unemployed. I do not know if President Obama addressed this issues, because I didn't get a chance to see the speech.
1. The biggest problem going on in America is the economy. Its effecting tons and tons of people and its not getting any better. Tons of people are left jobless and in some cases homeless because of our bad this economy.
2. The war and the job issues. Its important because our troops are over there fighting.
3. nothing upset me...
1.My opinion, the biggest problem the United States is facing right now is the economy. Due to having taxes cut down and people having trouble trying to find jobs and everything. Yes, it was addressed in the speech, saying that taxes were being cut down.
1) I think that the biggest problem that the U.S. is facing today is financial problems. Why, because we have put ourselves into debt to other nations and we can't keep our people up in the world that we live in. Obama did mention this in his speech, about 10 minutes in. He said that we need to increase pays and help the banks get balanced.
2) War and people that can't find a job to feed their families. War is putting peoples lives at risk and risking another terrorist attack on the U.S. People without jobs are having a hard time getting by and are in desperate need of help in order to stay up.
3) Economics and recovery-time. Economic jobs are trying to make things better for the people, but instead they're making things worse for other people that are in other jobs in the same field. Recovery-time is an issue because we're down and we have a lot of time to fix it, but we're taking too long to make it right for everyone.
1. I think the biggest the United states is facing is the economy, because it effects a lot of people with unemployment. Yes Obama addressed this issue in his speech. He said that the current period of time reflects back to the market crash and defined it as his most urgent issue when he took office.
2. Getting troops out of Iraq because I think the Iraqi people are ready to run their own country. Unemployment because a lot of people ar eout of a job.
3.I did'nt find anything mentioned in the article upsetting.
1. I believe that the biggest problem right now is the economy, and yes i believe that it was mentioned in his address.
2. The war and the the job issues which falls in the economy. Hes issuing all troops in some countries to cease fire, but in some of the other countries that isn't becoming the case. There is still the need to use weapons and killing techniques. The job issue hes done pretty good so far but its still an issue, hes givin out about 500,000 jobs and the rates down by .6?
3. Most of the topics are important just not to me.
The biggest problem the U.S. is facing right now is the debt that this country is in. It causes our dollar to be weaker and now China owns most of America's debt. Obama mentioned the deficit, but he said he would bring down the deficit over two decades.
I liked his new small business tax credit because it would encourage businesses to hire new employees. I also liked how he mention his distain towards the big bonuses handed out in the bigger banks, and proposed a fee on those banks.
1.I agree with Steven Espinoza because it is true the economy is an issue but it is not being recovered fast enough. this issue was addressed in his speech. He said that he hated the bank bailout but it needed to happen if it did not take place.
2. The two topics I think are important are eliminating capitol gains taxes on small businesses and that jobs must be the number one focus in 2011 I think these are important cause small businesses help grow the economy and that we need more workers for small businesses to be able to help the economy.
3.I do not find any topics that upset me cause I think Obama is trying his best
Nicole
1. I feel the biggest problem that the United States is facing is the economic issues and the lack of jobs for people. Obama addressed these issues stating that jobs should be the number one focus in 2010 and he proposes 30 billion dollars from bank tax to help community banks loan to small businesses.
2. The two topics I find to be important are employing more people, and creating a more clean energy industry, because they are both very important for our enviroment and our countries jobs status.
i think one of the biggest problems and what makes me frusterated the most is a how he keeps saying that the lives of our children should or will be better then our own. but he hasn't in my opinion done anything many people anything to help that many people are still jobless etc.. thats just my opinion though. and the biggest problem is the economy and yeah he addressed it.
2 I thought the war was a very good idea we need to get them out of there unless we absoultly need them there. And i know he is trying with the economy and it has gotten better then it was. so i cant talk to much trash about him
3 Like i said in my first statement i think he is not doing enough to help the economy to many people are jobless or homeless he need to get a plan going. and the other thing that i didn't like was the nuclear wepons we don't need to be thinking about that right now but he thinks we do so i don't with that.
1. I think the biggest issue is or economy. It's really bad and it looks like we are headed for a depression. Yes, he did address it and he is concerned too. He said that it leads all the way back to the stock market crash. I don't know a lot about it so I can't say my opinion on that.
2. One topic that I thought was important is when he talked about the war. HE is trying to get the soldiers to stop so they can come home which I really really like. I want them to come home and stop fighting. It's slowly working. The other thing I thought was important is the economy. I really hope we don't continue down this road because we are going to go into another depression and that would be very bad:( He needs to start fulfilling his promises and help pull us out of this...
3. I didn't really think anything was upsetting... I just really want him to stop making promises he can't keep. If the economy declines any faster we will for sure go into another depression. That would be baaad:(
1. The biggest problem, in my opinion, is jobs. Since Obama said jobs must be the number one focus in 2010 I think it's safe to say that this topic was addressed.
2. Stating that all of the troops will be out of Iraq by August is a pretty important demand. I'm sure a lot of people will lose trust in this man if he can't uphold his word.
Obama believes that clean energy is the way to lead the global economy and his opponents don't agree with him and he's doing it anyway. To me this takes guts and so I'm interested to see if he's a man of his word for this topic as well.
3. I dont find any of the topics upsetting. They were all very important and worth the discussion.
1. I feel that the biggest problem being faced is definitely the economy. I feel it's big because the economy has been just getting worse and worse and recently it began to get better. It affects the amount of unemployment. Obama did address this issue.
2. Two topics I find important would be the war and jobs. I think that this war needs to stop and him saying, "The troops will be out of Iraq by August of this year." makes me feel more hopeful. Our unemplyment rate is quite high right now and the more jobs we can get is better.
3. Honestly, I didn't find anything upsetting.
1. I think the biggest problem would be the economy. He addressed it and just talked about ways to fix it.
2. Two topic he mentioned that are important were economy, and education. I find that these to topics are very important because it is what america needs, better education and our economy sucks.
3. I didnt find anything that upset me.
1. The biggest problem seems almost unanimously agreed upon: economy. It was addressed. Obama talked about the 25 tax cuts and the extension of unemployment benefits.
1) I think the biggest problem in the United States right now is how the economy is so bad. Yeah, Obama did address it. He said unemployment benefits have been extended, and 25 tax cuts have been put in place, and not a single dime of income taxes have been increased.
2.)I find unemployment important because so many people are unemployed, and losing their homes, going into foreclosure. The other important topic is the health reform, because it still is iffy in my opinion, because there are so many people against it, and according to Obama, every American will be protected by it.
3.)The two topics i found upsetting was the unemployment, and what will happen to them, and the nuclear power plant, because of the offshore drilling, and we have had oil spill after oil spill which isnt good for our environment.
Fabiola Soto
1. I think that one of the biggest problems these days is the economy and seen how people lose their houses and cars etc. Yes we adressed it but i really think that is not being fixed and it is still going on till this point. And how people get layed out of work because the economy is low and their is no jobs available.
1) Economic problems because people are rapidly being foreclosed and losing their cars and properties, making people go into depression. Yes, president Obama addressed it and said he wanted to pass a bill so we could fix it.
2)
1. I think the worst problem the U.S is facing is that they have to realize that they aren't the number one in the world anymore. Obama adressed this problem and he said that the U.S have to invest more into future technologies. He used the example of not having the fastest computer in the world anymore. China took that place. Through technology you open new markets and new jobs for people.
2. Obama said that the worst of the Crisis is over. this is important because people should believe into the future.
Then he adresses the economy which he defined as his most urgent issue when he took office.
1. I feel that the biggest problem that the u.s is facing is unemployment rate. With so many people living in the United States today, there are not enough jobs for everyone to fulfill. This is leaving families less fortunate and without food and housing. Yes, Obama did address this issue in is article when he talked about how the recession has hurt families, and how 2 million people would be unemployed without the recovery act money.
2. I think the comprehensive energy and climate bill is important because it will help clean our country up a lot and help our global economy. Another topic is that unemployment benefits have been extended. This will help very much for the unfortunate families.
3. I didn't feel that anything was upsetting. I think he covered the important stuff that everyone had questions on.
The biggest problem U.S is facing is the economic. Obama does address this issue well. The two topics mention at the address that i found important was education and jobs. The education was very important and families would benefit this 10,000 incentive.
The biggest problem is the economy. Did he address it? Yes. Did he to do it as I would have liked? No. He didn't address raising taxes in a positive way even if raising taxes would have been political suicide. He also needed to address of the over spending of military.
The $10,000 initiative on four year college is amazing. I hope that happens.
The healthcare was beneficial to everyone. He addressed it briefly. I do enjoy that he still stands behind it though.
1. The biggest problem in this country is the economical part because even tho the president is trying to make
i think the biggest problem is the economy. Obama did address this and he said that we should tax the largest banks.
well like i said the poor economy because that needs to be fixed before we can try to fix anything else.
He seams like he has every thing under control but he has not done any thing to help his people this is my opinion about obama.
1. I think the biggest problem the U.S. is facing is the economy i.e. unemployment. It is an ongoing problem for people to be out of work¬ have a lot of money. So many people are out of work but the number has gone down-don't get me wrong. Yes, Obama did mention this in his speech, but not a whole lot.
2. Health Insurance Reform&an increase in jobs is pretty important to me. It makes no sense that people shouldn't be given health insurance. Unless things really do get in the way. An increase in jobs needs to happen. If people go to school to get such great degrees then why not offer them a job when they ask? Why aren't those people getting the jobs they want? Why is it so hard to get a job? It shouldn't be if all we're about is helping out our country to be better&do better.
3. The war is the only thing that is really upsetting to me. To me, there is no point in fighting in a war with people. Let's just leave each other alone. What's the point in killing intelligent young men&women just to save our country when we've been fighting for hundreds of years? I know it makes sense back then, but right now we shouldn't be in war&i hope that the troops get pulled out like OBama said but it probably wont happen.
1. i think the biggest problem in our society is obviously our economy. yes he addressed it seeing how much of a problem it is. he was saying how we need to stop the troops and the war. we need to send our troops back to the U.S.
2. one of the things he wanted to end was "terrorism". we need to stop these people that are attacking the united states just out of spite or hate. another topic was "unemployment". im pretty sure obama is trying his hardest to supply jobs to our states and so far, he's still climbing up that ladder.
3.i didnt find any topics that upset me alot.
1. i believe that our economy is the biggest problem, i didnt watch the speech so i really wouldnt know for sure, but im guessing that the problem about the economy was addressed pretty well.
2.i didnt watch the speech, i wish i would have to see what he had to say. i know we got a paper to read in this class but id rather watch and listen to it then just read a speech.
3. obama hasnt really done anything at all! he got all this hype cuz hes black and he hasent done anything.
I think our biggest problem is the economy. Being in a recession is not ideal. I think the war was important. Having the troops return home this year will be awesome. I also think the unemployment is important. I think Obama did a great thing by supplying 500,000 jobs. I don't really think anything really upset me. I was really excited about the troops coming home. I didn't really think about things depressing me.
1 I think the economy is the biggest problem, and I think it was addressed.
2 People that can't find a job to feed their families and War. War is putting peoples lives at risk and risking another terrorist attack on the U.S. People without jobs are having a hard time and are in dire need of help in order to live.
3 I found the nuclear power to be upsetting because it is a waste of money
1. the biggest problem is our economy. we are slowly drifting toward another depression, there is a lot of unemployment and other issues. yes it was adressed
2.jobs, a lot of people today face unemployment and this is a huge problem. people without jobs cant support themselves or their family. in life today, money is a MUST. another topic was that goes along with unemployment is the health care reform. alot of americans cant afford health care so this would take care of all.
3. the war is upsetting because my brother and cousin are over there and we dont get much contact from them. nobody really knows exactly how things are running and its been ongoing. unemployment also upsets me because i have been looking for a job and cant sem to find one, the same goes for my friends and others i know. people will lose everything if the unemployment does not fix soon enough
1. Of course like everyone said the biggest problem we are facing is the economical problem we are having atm
2.The war... Having a war or what ever u call it and spending more money on something that we really cant afford.. yeah maybe its for a good cause but we just dont have the money to spend on it.
Jobs... The unemployment rate is too high people cant get jobs.... we need a way for people to get jobs and make the economy go higher.
3.I dont find anything upsetting
The biggest issue that i think America is facing right now is the fact that we are almost going into another great depression. I think that this country has a lot of issues with spending money. The thing that does not make sense to me is that we could easily change the way this country is if we just all give an effort. Also the unemployment rate is going way up which i think is wrong because if i am 16 and have a job then i think other people could get jobs too i just think that it is laziness. I can understand if it was because you are disabled and that keeps you from having a job but the people that are collecting unemployment for no reason that is not right. The most important thing we need to be concerned about is the economy and the debt we are in.
1) The hardest thing we are facing would probably be the economy and all of the taxes. He said he's making as many tax cuts as he can and he's trying his hardest to improve the economy.. just it's not happening as fast as he would like it to. Also, to improve the economy his number one priority is jobs. Getting them and creating them.
2) College funds. The price to go to college is so high, so its less likely a person will go. So he's offering to pay 10% and give the family of that student $10,000.
Creating clean energy. This is the only world we have.. so if we ruin it.. that's it. We should be caring beyond belief how the environment is! I know i do.. so he should focus on even the little things. For example, getting recycling all over the US. When I went to PA, they have to pay to recycle.. that's not cool.
3)It upsets me that we have to "find" jobs for people.. all just because of Bush outsourcing all of our jobs! All we have to do is move our original jobs, back to where they were!
Another thing is, the price of college! I know he wants to pay for people to go.. but still.. it's still sooo expensive!? Why not just lower the cost, instead of paying $10,000?? THEN people will really start going again.. and make our country a smarter, better place.
1. In my opinion i'd say the economy. Reason is that how things are going and people losing their homes and jobs. Yes, he did address it yet, i don't know if he is really going to fix it the right way.
2. I think the economic reform is the most important because that is what is hurting us right now the most. People need jobs and Obama is doing all he can, but one man can not be responsible. We all have to put forth effort into fixing it. Also the war is a bugaboo. We need to get our troops home and stop losing americans for unnecessary reasons.
3. The two topics that bug me is the health insurance one cause we have been pushing for it but just not everyone can afford it. IT should be an option in my opinion. Also the nuclear power? First we should not have any, but for protective reasons...... maybe ONE. Not hundreds??!?! We should not try to blow ourselves up I'm sorry.
-Austin Wray-Jenkins
1. I believe the biggest problem is our economy crisis because that affects every single American citizen. Yes this topic was addressed in his speech. The president spoke about a plan to recover from the delima.
2. Well i found the whole employment issue important because that affects our generation, and the whole fact that he compared the Great Depression times, and our current time zone.
3.it kinda upsets me that he wants to send 30 billion dollars to recover from our debt, but to me that doesn't make sense to me. in the actually speech he was comparing American school to foreign schooling and i thought that was harsh.
1.) the biggest problem i feel we are facing in the U.S. is the economy because everything is going bad like the unemployment rate. I think Obama did mention about this in his speech.
2.) The unemployment rate and getting troops out of Iraq i find important because people want their soldiers back and people need jobs too.
3.)One thing i felt was upsetting was the fact that he didnt talk alot about health care.
I believe that the economy is not going to get any better unless we as a country start working together to make things a lot better. Unemployment is still present to this day I find that to be the most serious of all. Although I believe Obama could make things as it was before in due time.
And as for the troops we will be waiting for their arrival in August.
I believe the biggest problem in our country today is our economy. Our economy is on a downfall and was address needing to be fixed first priority.
The War and job problem. War was calling cease fire and troops are going to be coming home next year which is good for soldier to finally come home with there families or awhile. Then the jobs, Obama is doing a great job at suppling enough jobs to everyone. It will fix the unemployment rate by a great amount. Down job rate has fallen .6% and he added a ton of new jobs.
I thought the topics weren't upsetting to me and the president is going on the right track to getting the country back on its feet.
1. I feel the biggest problem is Obama is saying he wants to save money and get us out of the depression, but he keeps spending money on stupid ;things that the country doesn't need. I thought the speech was a bunch of BS. Yes he addressed it but he said basically to get money you have to spend more money, THAT WE DONT HAVE!!!!!
2.He referenced now to the stock market crash in the 1930's. And he also talked about the economy. ^^^.
I feel that he should have told the country that the rich can keep their money the middle class shouldnt have huggeeeeee income tax and that the country shouldn't have to spend more money than what we have.
3. I find it upsetting that he thinks that he has to spend a lot of money on things that are pointless to create jobs. He should just blantantly say that America needs to go to war. How did we get out of the depression in the early 1900's? WAR! What about in the great depression? WAR! And this is the third recession we have been in and no matter what country it is, we will end up going to war.
And he is still trying to pass Health care reform that i can already see failing miserably. He wasted his time, our time, and everyone else's time giving this speech.
1. The biggest probably the United States is facing is unemployment and the recession. It was addressed, and Obama sad that the issues would be tackled and that he has never had more hope for a our country than now.
2. Personally, i feel that the jobs and the war are the most important. in some countries he ordered the troops to cease fire, while in other countries they are still being used to eliminate terrorism and injustice. Also, i believe the rate of unemployment needs to decrease, and i think obama knows what he is doing. in all reality, no president is ever seen as the best president in anyones eyes, you have to do the worst tasks to get to the best.
3. i didnt really find anything upsetting, i think obama had a really good speech.
1.the main problem I think America is facing is the economy, because a lot of people are still out of work. yes he did address it. He said "the worst crisis is over, but there are still some devastation in the country".
2.The parties are agreeing about the banks and such because they are finally agreeing, also The unemployment rate is going down because he created more jobs for people to have.
3.The topic I find upsetting is the Health Care bill because it is too much money and we really don't have that money. The other topic I find upsetting is that they're taking our soldiers out of Afghanistan by August and that upsets me because the people in that country needs help and we always lend a hand and that's how we became a country, with help from the French.
1. The economy is what I believe to be the biggest problem that the U.S. is facing. Due to the low economy, we see many people losing their jobs, houses etc, and it isn't getting any easier to find new ones. Yes, Obama did address this matter.
2. The war and the economy. The war because it is not vital to have our troops over there. It is not needed, and Obama said tat he would get them out of there. Economy for reasons stated above.
3. I didn't find any of the topics addressed upsetting.
Well of course i think the big problem is the economy like always. But they dont tell what the problems of the working man as in depression or lack of work. Its just hard out here for all us people. And on another note how are troops are still around the world trying to force terrorism to stop that will probably just end up making things worse for everyone and the terrorist will just try harder and harder we need to just take are men out and bring them home! Well i also dont find anything depressing on these subjects to be truthful.
1. I think the biggest problem in my opinion is the economy, it was addressed but not very well, to take out big bounuses from banks and used money to get our money back, going in a circle.
2. The war- I like the idea that the slodiers will be coming back, but when they do, is he going to send them back out? Jobs- Being able to get jobs right now is hard and i like the fact that he's passing a bill, but what will be the drawbacks of doing such a thing? They are going to make banks loan small businesses money, but a lot of the time the money never gets paid back.
3. I really hate the fact about this Nuclear PLant thing. Creating biofuel and coal technology, he says he wants to help our country, well, creating more power plants is so not going to help. It will be killing and destroying our land more than helping. And the other is the comprehension energy and climate bill. What is that? Messing with Mother Earth. Well, if he keeps ruining this country economically and geographically, Mother Nature will fight back, as well as the citizens of the U.S. and this whole ordeal will be worse than it already was.
1. I think the biggest problem is the economy. People are starting to lose faith and patriotism in our country because unemployment rates are going up, houses are being foreclosed, cars sold, etc. Yes he did address it but it needs to be fixed faster then it is.
2. President Obama's comments about the war on terror personally have me skeptical. Earlier this year, our troops were supposed to leave Iraq. It didn't happen. Now he is saying they will be out by August. If that doesn't happen, a lot of people aren't going to like Mr. President very much.
President Obama hopes to achieve a number of hefty goals this year. Will he be able to make these happen? I personally don't like when people promise something will happen or change, and then they don't follow through. I know that many people, including myself, do not want our President to be one of those people.
3. (see above two topics)
I think the economy and the lack of jobs is the biggest problem. So many people are out of work and can't afford their home, or bills, or they're having problems with family. President Obama did address this issue and he wants to give American's back their jobs and try to help small businesses reinvest in their business.
The war is one. President Obama said that the troops would be out by August of this year and that made me really happy. Also, he wants to create a more clean energy industry. I honestly have no opinion on the whole global warming because I haven't read much into it yet so I'm not taking sides, but this effort to help make us more environmental friendly is great in my opinion.
Well I would have to say; what do you mean by unsettling? There wasn't a topic I thought he approached wrongly, but the topics I believed to be the worst were the Jobs and the economy because we're really close to having another depression and I don't want that to happen in my lifetime thanks. As for the jobs, I would like the amount of people working to go up because jobs are, obviously, important to thrive anywhere really.
im sure Obama will make this a better place. as well as fix our economic problems and id greatly thank him if he did fix this world.?
I feel the United States is facing a huge economic problem cause many are losing jobs and many can't find jobs cause more job loss. President Obama did address the issue, He said that unemployment benefits would be extended, and twenty-five tax cuts have been put in place. He also said that not a single dime of income taxes has been increased.
I find that the first topic would be Employment and the second Economy cause they both are what we are trying to stop so our Country doesn't fall to pieces or in chaos in another Great Depression.
The topics that were upsetting for me were: The War and Health Care issues cause yes they are pulling our army out, but we still lost good people in that war and I know someone who was there in a way so its painful. Also Health care is a issue that hurts me too cause of how the hospitals are acting and how expensive they are, for example when I was in a hospital a guy was sitting with his head bleeding and he had to sit and wait for hours like me if I had a head trauma and they were absent minded like kinda were than I would have died.
1.) I feel the biggest problem the U.S. is facing is the bad economy. I think this because we have a huge number of unemployed people in America. Many people try to find jobs and can't. And several people are losing their jobs.President Obama did sddress this issue in his speech. He said our courage is being tested. He said that all the nations share these difficulties and we should work together to fix them.
1. I feel the biggest problem the United States is facing today is the economy. We are facing a depression and yes Obama addressed the subject that its getting better but a large majority of people are still loosing homes and vehicles and basically doing what they can to get through the day.
2. The war and economy. Wars can deffinatly be prevented unless they are needed, and when they are needed there has to be a strong reason. The economy needs to rise to a point of.......
The biggest hardship right now is the economy and unemployment. Many are having a very difficult time finding jobs and supporting their family. This problem was addressed in President Obama's Union speech. I believe time is the only aspect that will truly let the employment rate settle back to a normal level. Obama, i believe, is doing his best to resolve our problems in the United States. Yes taxes are extremely high, but thats a price we have to pay when in a war for over 10 years.
I really enjoyed Obama's speech. I think he brings up great topics and covers most of our problems, although health care is also a very large issue.
Obama said that all of the troops in Iraq will be out by August. Is this truly gonna happen as soon as we hope? Who one knows for sure, but if we are beginning to announce that this truly is one of the plans, then its a step in the right direction.
1. I feel the biggest problem is our economy, with out a concrete and strong economy the country as a whole will face problems from individuals social life to the country's position in the world. Obama did touched on this topic stating the pros of what we did with the banks and his officials strive to create more jobs to circulate more money in the US.
2. I find his want to increase jobs is a good idea for without jobs in the US our economy will suffer and America will fall (other wise sated in Q1). Secondly he wishes for Americans to get a higher education which will keep jobs from being "outsourced" and keep our citizens on the top of the education & knowledge of the world so the world will look up to us.(Because that is what we care so much about, being the worlds "BIG Brother")
3. The only thing i don't agree with is his statement of tax cuts, yes it is a good way to support businesses to not out source but at the same time we need to get over the fact "taxes are soooo bad", because no they are not bad with out them we couldn't continue or structure or the country the way we do. All the things that taxes go to help keep us cavil and in order.
In my opinion the biggest problem is the economy and unemployment because it affects everybody, and yes, it was addressed in the speech.
Two topics that i found important was the war, and the health care plan. I liked that he was trying to get all of the troops back home and i dont know exacly whats the health care about, but it must be important because they talked alot about it.
And none of the topics were upsetting for me. In my opinion all the topics were very interesting and important.
1. The biggest problem in my opinion is the economy. It was talked about in the state of the union address.
2.Getting the troops out of iraq and afghanistan so they can can come home safe.
1.) In my opinion the biggest problem is the economy. The economy is going through a great depression which was stated.
2.) Two of the most important parts were about the economic growth and health care insurance. Economic growth is a major thing here because with our problems with the economy, we don't really need the increase of population. Also, the health care insurance is important because going to the doctor is expensive and some people don't have the money to afford it. So Obama states that everyone will cared.
3.) None of the topics were upsetting to me.
1. I Think That The Biggest Problem America Is Facing Is The Economy. We Are Probably Going To Go Into A Depression.
2. The War And Unemployment/Job Benefits. He Said That All The Troops Would Return Home Sometime This Year. That Was A Good Topic. And Obama Is Trying To Supply Alot Of Jobs For People , Plus The Rate Has Gone Down.
3. I Don't Think Any Of His topics Were Upsetting.
