Well, in my opinion, everyone has secrets and some are very personal, to me this whole wikileaks thing is like celebirty gossip but about politics. I'm kind of in the middle, somethings should be kept in secret and others, the society needs to know about. No one wants their so called "affair" to leak out for everyone to read, but so many people today are curious. Information about bombing or terrosit attacks are secrets that should be exposed, it helps us because we can be prepared if it ever does happen, hopefully it won't.
In my opinion the WikiLeaks can be good and evil. I say this because, certain things to a point can be good but when you cross that line they can turn evil faster than they can do good. Some of the topics and, "secrets," can further lead to bad relations between counties or just make them worse. Then eventually countries will turn on another then causing a chaos in the European and Middle Eastern countries. I think the WikiLeaks are just an overall bad idea, some things are said, but not all should be heard. Thats what i say because yes i say things but i don't need the person it's about or others hearing it....-Steven Espinoza
I think that wikileaks is bad because they are posting all of the countries secrets and the reason why world leaders are getting mad is because it shows the public all the top secrets of the goverment. If the site was good they wouldn't get hacked all of the time.
I think that the WIKILEAKS organization has the right to the freedom of speech but I also think that they should think deeply about what they are saying. If the secrets are not deeply confidential and they do not unlease anything too damaging,then I think that it should not be such a huge issue.
Certain things should be kept secrets from civilians and certain things i think its pretty cool to know. obviously people dont want their personal information out cause thats their information but these "secrets" havent been like super important national security secrets so wiki leaks can be bad and good.
I think wikileaks is doing a good job and it should stay like that because the way the world is informed of everything the happends arround them and it can also help create new ideas of how to keep the peace in the world by informing the people and they can be aware of the pros & cons of the conflicts.
In my opinion, WikiLeaks is both good and bad. People have right to know what their country is up to and what their leaders are really like. I think Sarah Palin's Yahoo account should be left alone, though. That's digging into her personal life, not just politics, and many people hate her enough as it is. Why make it worse? Leaks can also prove offensive to other countries and destroy any future of alliances or peace treaties. It's just like talking about your good friend behind their back and then the person you complained to goes and reveals what you said to your friend. Then you're friendship is in turmoil, just like wikileaks and their exposures. Posting about the Iraqi war logs is also wrong to do. If we ever got into a major world war, we would know all of their strategies and death toll, which is unfair to them.
Releasing top secret government information to the crowd can be debatable. If it is info the gov't is keeping from us that does not involve another country, then why can't we know? Maybe aliens exist afterall and the government knows and is keeping that a secret? I'd like to know who watches me at night. If it's scientific knowledge, it's ok to expose, if it's foreign relation knowledge, that's personal and some of it might not be apropriate to expose to the public. :P
I agree with jen, i stand in the middle as well. Some things we need to know about and other secrets aren't ours to share and shouldn't be shared.
In a way, I feel as if I'm being asked whether if Assange is a hero or not. I personally don't care if he is or not. Back to answering the prompt, I believe Wikileaks does have the right to expose and pull the curtain for the "secrets" because it is their right to do so. It may not be nice, but still the rights to do so remain.

Wikileaks is doing the world a service that many have wanted for decades, to hear the truth. Instead of some sugar coated and politically correct statement about an issue that hardly reveals anything, Wikileaks gives us the truth, no matter how blunt it may be. So, I support Wikileaks and it should keep up its work to expose the secrets that hold high up officials accountable for their actions. It's about time someone called them out on what they say and do. But, on the other hand I can see where releasing certain information May be dangerous, such as a planned attack when two countries are at war, or something of the like. Otherwise, Wikileaks is doing us a great service to expose the people that lead us in our government and world. It's a service like this that may restore honesty or boldness to the flimsy politicians of the world so we can actually get something done instead of wasting so much time trying to be polite and dance around "offending" a country or individual because you're honest with them.
Wikileaks is completely good, a complete amazing embarrassment to the government, which truly makes me smile. it was proven in many articles that the government was only outraged once something that could exploit or embarrass them came to light. Ya sure, everyone is entitled to a secret, whatever. But the americans deserve to know these things that the filthy government is keeping from us. I'm slightly siding with a view of anarchy here, not gonna lie. honestly the creator of wikileaks is a hero as well as every person that gave him such documents.
In my opinion, WikiLeaks shouldn't give out secrets of the world because it just casues more problems that aren't needed. I mean, some issues from WikiLeaks could be major, but others are just unnecessary. We don't need more problems in the world right now.
In my own opinion, I think that the WIKILEAKS organization is releasing too much controversial information that the public cannot possibly understand. If they keep the exposure of documents to a minimum, then they could be within their limits and can keep on going as long as they don't leak out too much at a given time. For now, I'd say there in there "limit" but there just on the edge of leaking out too many Gov't secrets to everyone.
Alright, so this dude Julian Assange is probably the hero of 2010 for this. He is a champion of his first amendment rights and he was totally in the clear on this. Things like this should always be aired, it keeps countries who have bad things to hide, watching their back so that another leak doesn't come out with all the stuff they've done. I believe that this was a great thing and I'm glad it happened. Julian shouldn't be publicly crucified by the media just because of a checkered past due to hacking. He runs a legitimate organization that keeps the worlds nations on their feet.
(Also, some of the higher ups from Wikileaks have started their own site called Openleaks. Wikileaks is still the original whistleblower site, but it will be interesting to see what happens with it's new rival.)
What Wikileaks prides itself in is the unconcealing and the unravelling of diplomatic structure and the framework of government. Obviously, the government keeps secrets, but not for the effect that most believe that they do. Secrets are secrets because they are not meant to be known, and some things are left that way. Julian Assange is a criminal, but not by the books. Sure, he may be seen as a "liberator of minds," but in all honesty, the people who complain about governments having too much power and "need to be taken down a notch" are the ones who bandwagon with Wikileaks without the understanding that countries not knowing EVERYTHING keeps them safe. Without a powerful, secure government, the influence the US (and every other nation) would be reduced to nothing. Wikileaks takes away the security of a nation's information.
As much as I hate to admit it, wikileaks has the right to say whatever they want about basically whatever they want. At least according to the American Constitution, However, the rules for other places are different and if he is violating the rules of his own country then he should be stopped. However, in my opinion, I fully believe that the wikileaks fiasco needs to stop. It is not okay to have all of this information just freely floating about. We as Americans do not have many countries out ther who like us and we need to preserve the few friendships we do have.
In my opinion, wikileaks are a international problem but we are atempting to fix them so the media shouldn't get into it at all. They are just blowing everything out of proportion and making it a big deal.I think that the wikileaks SHOULD stop giving information about the world, because it is obviously causing problems. the "secrets" of the world should just be kept to only certain people.

Uh! well.. If they know secrets then they know secrets. I don't really have an opinion on this whole topic, but yeah dude they shouldn't be sharing secrets with people! Secrets aren't cool, They should erase the minds of the people who know the secrets, therefore leaving everyone empty minded about this whole subject, lets move on and drink some hot co-co. But basically im just saying secrets are kept secret for a reason no one needs panic.
Honestly my opinion is that secrets are okay, not ever one needs to know every little thing about you. Yeah, it is okay to tell some things but if you're not feeling comfortable saying you shouldn't have too.

I think the wikileaks are good to have, because we need to know things about our country. I mean some things shouldn't be told because it could hurt us in decision making, and if something top secret gets out it could be really bad for us especially if it is about war. Although the smaller things are good for them to tell us, so i guess I am in the middle. The wikileaks are good and bad!

well i think that wikileaks can be a good and bad thing. It just kind of depends on how you look at it ,and what kind of information you want. It does let other people put there information on the site,but it doesn't mean that you have to believe what they post. Also the owner said that she doesn't just let people put things on there she reads it before she post's it. So all in all it could be bad and good.

So i think Wikileaks is in the clear for posting but bad for what they posted, this can make are allies and future allies have an untrustworthy opinion of the U.S. and other countries which in turn can cause more war, less important trade, and defensive problems for the future.
I believe that secrets shouldnt be kept theres a saying "secrets dont make friends. The people have the right to know any secrets that are being kept from them. if there apart of the U.S. Then they have the right to know.
The bad part of Wikileaks is that it's releasing information that is confidential for a reason. Freedom of speech is great but it must have a limit. Assange has broken some bonds of trust amongst middle eastern countries and the U.S. There is also a good part, which is revealing the corruption in the government. This will hopefully make the government think twice about doing something they know they shouldn't do.
I think everyone just wants to have something to talk about, because everyone wants to read about it, what needs to happen is people like you and I need to stop reading this, so that these gossipers go out of business. The point I'm trying to make is that people will always try to start gossip its your choice if you want to believe it or not. And this guy has the right to do this, but he shouldn't, because it's morally wrong.
I think the media made it appear substantially more important than it was. What they seemed to be saying was that government secrets and military information was leaked, but it seems to me like it's more gossip than anything else. Mr. Burr made the point that they are acting like high schoolers. People want to be fed something that gets them all excited; we like to be outraged. But this stuff is not all that important. It's all who thinks what about someone else. Sure, it may strain relations, some of which do NOT need any more reason to be tense. And maybe these people should not have said some of the things they said. But really, we all say that kind of thing about people. People always have and likely always will talk about each other, no matter what level they're supposed to be on. The public feeding into it, though, is what makes people like those who leaked this information thrive. They put this stuff out there because people are so desperate to hear it. So it's really not important, but we have made it so. Relations with Iran and Pakistan don't need to be any worse, but really, they already don't like the U.S. and I doubt there's much we could do to change that at this point, at least not any time soon.
@Jorge, I agree. It's their right to say what they want to say, and they need to decide themselves whether or not it is appropriate.
I think that WikiLeaks have a right to, however it crossed the line and went to far. The secrets of bombing and and such does need to be known, about and this site could have been used for our benefits. If you don't want something to get out then you should try harder to hide it. Maybe this will teach the leaders of the world that computers are easy to hack, and to watch what they send to others.
WikiLeaks should make it fair if they're going to continue with what they've started. By 'fair' I mean that they need to focus on every country and not just the U.S. that way, since secrets about how the U.S. feels about one country won't matter because we we'll know that the other country feels the same way about the U.S.
If one person's secrets are told, everyone's secrets should be told. That is my opinion and conclusion.
I believe that WikiLeaks Is good and bad. It's bad because some of the stuff that was stated was insulting to other Countries. For a lot of people pride is a huge part of who they are, if they feel like that is being compromised or that they are being disrespected in someway things could escalate. Now we the people have a right to what's going on. With that being said we should not be exploiting what other people say in private. What someone things of another is their own business.

I think wiki leaks is a major problem that needs to be fixed, because although some things on there may be factual, there are just somethings that are unnecessary to know! Like for instance the leak on Libya from the article, stuff about romantic relationships are stupid topic to discuss! I am certainly not interested in that. However the leaks could be used for people's advantage so they are informed on what kind of things are going on about other countries. That stuff may be important and good to know about, like war related issues.
I think it works out to a good way, and a bad way. Some things should be kept secret, and others I think we should have the right to know if we choose to. But honestly in my own opinion, it just seems like gossip. Like on the television. You just cant believe all of it.
In my Opinion the wikileaks website should have the right to expose informations. the world should have the right to know what is going on in the world of the rich people and politicians. of course people should have some privacy but not if it's a major problem. I mean i don't care if the president is sleeping with someone, but i do care if north korea is testing nuclear weapons behind the back of everyone. this website can be good and also bad, but it's the truth and everyone wants to know the truth, so in my opinion it is ok to keep this website. I mean, if the government doesn't want us to know something, then we won't. but everything happens for a reason. I think it is ok to expose things like that even if it hurts the foreign relations.
honestly i think that the WIKILEAKS organization has the right to expose the information, but it's stupid to. Not only our society, but other countries, such as the middle eastern ones, are finding out about this. And in some cases, that could be a very bad thing. Even if the "secrets" are pointless and name calling. The other countries will react more, the more the media knows about these situations. If the media knows about one "secret" they will blow it way out of proportion causing another country to, and our society, to also make a big deal out of it. But if WIKILEAKS does not leak any information, then there would be no issue with the media making a bigger issue out of such a small thing. Our society does have the right to know certain things though, like bombing another country. I would not like to be sitting at home while my country is bombing some other country and I am not aware of it. Honestly, that is very comforting.
I don't see a problem with wikileaks. What is the big deal everyone is making about it? The government says that the american public should know their secrets but they still keep documents "classified" from the cold war, vietnam, and nearly every event they have been even vaguely related to. This site just gives us,the general public, the possibility to see those documents that they "know nothing about". How can they clam that there is no complex at Area-51, when the whole world knows it is there. Classified documents should be released & the only way to get them maybe through wikileaks. Maybe if the governments didn't keep so many secretes from it's people, in the U.S. and all around the world, then there would be no need for wikileaks, wikileaks would not be controversial and this media uproar with how it is dangerous to alliances would go away.

I agree with Jen all this wikileaks is, is gossip with politics. Celebrities don't appreciate or like their secrets or what they say in private to be published in magazines or online, But no one does anything to stop it from happening. If anything, people encourage it. So now that it's happening in politics it's all of a sudden not acceptable? That's pretty contradicting or the media. But at the same time it is our allies, and when it comes down to it we need to keep them. Not talk bad about them. It's like a group of close best friends, they all like each other and are their for each other but at the end of the day each one says things about the others assuming they won't hear. I think that the WikiLeaks organization should not be releasing information about The United States because it only causes problems. With how things are in the world today, countries are triggered by the smallest problems and turn them into worldly problems. I don't think it is their right because they are stealing the information.

I believe that the WIKILEAKS should be stopped because they are exposing articles about what the U.S. has said about other countries... and its not good. The WIKILEAKS, to me. are very evil to the U.S. because many countries are not happy with us. Also, some of the countries that the U.S. talked about have nuclear plants that we almost shut down but it will become ten times harder to do so.
In my opinion the WIKILEAKS organization should stop releasing information because that is causing problems and making worst the relations between some countries and if it gets out of control it can lead to a 3rd world war. But in the other side i think that is good that they are releasing information because countries can be aware of the things against them.
I think the people have a right to get information as long as it's not stupid and silly. If there is information that the people should know about but cant get access to, I think its good that someone provide us with that. At the same time, I don't want to now anything about who is sleeping with who and other personal silly stuff that the people simply don't have anything to do with.
True or not, I can understand that russia gets upset if U.S diplomats calls them undemocratic and plagued by corruption.
Hopefully wikileaks can make people in charge a little bit more careful what they say about other countries and leaders. Wikileaks can be good as long as they provide us with accurate information that we actually need.
i personally think that certain secrets are kept secret for a reason and if they wanted to tell them they would. things like a foreign leader having an affair is not something we need to know and is embarrasses for both him and his wife. but information about attacks and things that will put lots of people in danger are important to know of. so basically i agree with Jen completely.

How can you say keeping secrets helps relationships. Yes we, The U.S., have our dirty laundry and if it is hung out other countries may get angry with what we have done, but if we had never kept secrets then we may not have done what we had done, relationships are built on trust not hiding secrets. The U.S. should just accept that the public has rights to know what we are doing. Give up wikileaks has won, for better or for worse, but it will make people think before they do.
I think WikiLeaks is bad. People have secrets, and they are called secret for a reason. If people wanted others to know them, they wouldn't be secrets anymore. Everyone is entitled to privacy. At the same time, I think that if a conversations is that important to someone, they should have it in person. My mommy always told me, don't put something on the internet unless you are prepared for anyone to see it.Once it's out there you can't take it back. That also applies so I guess it's kind of those people's fault too, but the WikiLeak people are just rude (:

In my opinion Wikileaks is bad. Who has the time to read about politician's opinion about another person or country. I believe WE as people should focus more important stuff like economy or education. The man who is running this website should be in jail for going through peoples e-mails, It's just dirty and wrong.

I think WIKILEAKS has a right to expose the "secrets" of the world to the world, because everyone has their free agency. But isn't the whole point of a secret to keep it secret? However, if WIKILEAKS can find the information then it's obviously not secret, is it? IF you want something to be secret you don't tell the whole world. The question still pops up...why just the U.S.? If it's life threatening tell everyone you know. Don't just spill the beans to spill them. There's a reason why WIKILEAKS is so interested in the "secrets" of the world.

In some way your right because americans have the right to know what the government is doing, but the problem is that americans are not the only ones knowing about these, countries that don't like the U.S. can attack us very easily if they know our secrets or our weak side.

There are good things and bad things about it.. it just depends on how you look at it, but like Zach said if the Government doesn't want to keep secrets from us then they shouldn't and this whole stupid thing about it wouldn't happen. I believe that the wikileaks problem, or obstacle, is very childish because some get mad of secrets not being exposed and others are exposing secrets making others mad. If i was part of this "drama" i would listen to what everyone would have to say then i would start pointing things out, but yet, still keeping it within the group and not yet exposing it. the reason for this action is that the public just want to stick their noses everywhere and sometimes some things are too confidential to be told. Also, if the public really wanted to know then i say, live life and be patient, because the wikileaks already have a big problem to deal with, which is basically documentation.
I think wikileaks should be stopped, because secrets are meant to be secrets.. why would a person want to let these out, ruin allies, and make enemies worse? How is that helping anything? I'll tell you, It's not! It's just another stupid thing for gossip and the Headlines, no point in it to me.

WikiLeaks is both good and evil. Alright my opinion on these Wikileaks is that its absolutely ridiculous and just causing more drama around this world which we really do not need. I think that the Wikileaks should be stopped from releasing information because secrets are secrets, why spread them? There are obviously reasons that the secrets are secrets because if the wanted them to be known they would have made an announcement or SOMETHING. I think that Wikileaks was a website that was created to start drama because no matter how the world trys to be perfect, we still have to live with the negative drama loving people. Well, i think that they are "good" and "bad" people are entitled to their opinion and are free to say what they please. I think that some things should be left unsaid/untold but things do get out. I think if this continues and things that are said get worse it can lead to a possible war or conflict between countries that isn't necessary.. I think that the people writing this need to think about what they are position and need to think about what problems they could be causing now or in the near future.

I think that WikiLeaks can be both because there is always a certain point when you should know not to cross the line and i think it is more evil because the guy that did the WikiLeaks knew what he was doing and also knew what it was going to cause as far as a world crisis so he should not have done it in my opinion. Now we have to worry about the foreign relations that we have with other countries that might now hate us.

Yes it is great to know about terrorism.. but why do we need things leak like affairs, and how not bad terrorism is for other places.. to me it's just a thing for the headlines. I think they are within their rights to do so but why on earth would someone want to create contention in the world??? That is what WikiLeaks is doing, creating contention. Yes, we do have the right to freedom of speech, but there are just somethings that you don't tell people, much less put it on the Web for everyone to see.
I honestly think that Wikileaks should keep some things to themselves, like the affair business, the whole world doesn't need to know, but other information should be known, like if someone/country decides to attack us, bombing and such we should know about, so we can be prepared. We have to be careful of the words we use and how we shape them, but seriously personal information about a leader in a different country is their business not ours. Wikileaks needs to watch what they say and keep some information to themselves.
Lauren, I completely agree with you. People are going to talk but there are things that are better left unsaid especially to the public.

i think that wikileaks is good and bad. there are two sides to every thing and i think that we should know about whats going on in our world but there are some things that should be kept secret for the safety of the people. there's a reason they have secrets and i think sometimes its best to not delve into something you dont know anything about.
I believe that the issue with wikileaks has gotten a bit out of hand. Some thinngs shouldn't be publish especially things that deal with some of the world leaders. But some things are better left unsaid. I do believe in the freedom of press but when its causing conflict between countries then there should be an end put to it.
I'm kind of on both sides because one we shouldn't betoo nosy but at the same time we need to be informed on some conflicts because some might involve us.

WikiLeaks in my opinion is not exactly the best idea. what they did is a huge crisis, not just in the person's life but the country's relations to others and it could seriously damage the country's reputation. Also i have heard people say they wish they could read other people's minds and well thats not a good idea because these are people's thoughts about themselves and no one else should know. some people wouldn't care but others do and we don't know what another person could do because we may not know them, its like the movie Inception but actually bringing the idea or thought into the real world for the whole world to see.

i agree with you. Things do get out so watch what you say. However, just because some crazy things might have been said or done doesnt mean people should be publishing them for the whole world to know because it could cause wars. So whoever is writing things they should really think about if what they write could cause serious problems.
personally, i believe that wikileaks has either created drama for the fun of it or for the worst. honestly, if other countries are taking what is being said seriously and to the heart, i believe they have some personal self issues. if something is said about you and you know it is not true, then it should not effect you. i do think that the whole wikileaks idea is just trouble waiting to happen, considering the middle eastern countries in which these leaks were towards are very unreasonable and don't really think things through correctly. for example, 9/11;they attacked our country while killing some of their own men. the things they do don't have reasonable consequences, and it might not be a good idea to mess around with them. it is all like celebrity gossip except about politics, and i dont think politics should have gossip about them, because it just gets taken way too seriously. but, if wikileaks were about celebrities or people in our country, i dont think it would be that big of a deal. but since it has to do with foreign affairs, it needs to come to an end.

in my opinion, wikileaks should be able to say what the government and what not keeps away from us.
"whats mine is yours" right? well, the government shouldnt have to hide things away from their country and i applaud wikileaks for telling us the details of what our states and congress really is, society needs to know and sooner or later, were going to know it.

Evil, whoever spends their career bugging into latest gossip obviously has some issues. Now, if is was a website that was purely for the purpose of exposing the truth about "real world issues," instead of causing feud and embarrassment in the U.S.'s relations, that would be a different story. Wikileaks should be permanently shut down and the dude should go to jail for his rape accusation. If we wanted to hear dirt on famous foreigners we could request it on "the dirty."
I agree with slewis. Leader's secrets should be between them and who they said it to. Exposing it could be disastrous for more than the countries involved.

In my opinion, the Wikileaks aren't as bad as the media make it out to be. It's kind of like high school. If you have something that you don't want others to find out, keep it to yourself. Gossip travels like crazy, how is this any different? Do I think it's rather childish? I do, but I believe that Wikileaks has the right to go forward with this, if this guy would really like to. It could be useful information to certain countries, anyway.

I think that WikiLeaks is both good and bad. It is like a gossip thing in some ways which in my opinion is not necessary. I do know many people are curious just like most of us are with the celebrities. However, its not really necessary. Some things I do think are important for us to know. Since it is about many of our main leaders if it's really important we probably should know. However, I don't want wars or huge arguments to break out. So i still remain in the middle.

Lieutenant Burr, I completely agree with what you said. Wikileaks are incredibly childish and are causing 2X the problems that we already are dealing with in the U.S. I really doubt that there is that high of a demand to hear all this dirt on the political leaders, considering at least 85% of the student body had no idea who these political leaders were until reading the Wikileaks.
I believe that Wikileaks is not seriously bad but still not good. Its just gossip and gossip is not going to cause world chaos maybe some tension. Some of that gossip, for example, world issues should stay between the leaders. The high school gossip is not serious but more embarrassing for the United States and even more embarrassing for our Government to fix.

I feel that wikileaks is bad in the means of displaying vital information that could potentially put national security or someone at risk. On the other side I feel that it isn't as bad as it is made out to be and that since the government is able to hide so much stuff from us and no one is concerned but more concerned with public sharing. in my opinion i think Wikileaks is a good thing because i believe it is a good thing to know what is happening around us. Yes it might get other countries mad and want to start a fight. But you would think that if they were smart they would not do it if they knew it was wrong and we would get mad? If its so "secret" and they know it is bad and it would make us mad because how wrong it is, then they should try and stop it. I believe that the WikiLeaks Organization is in every way doing the right thing. In trying to control and shrink big government, revealing it's secrets can do lot of good. The people have the right to know what it's government is up to and SHOULD know what it's up to. WikiLeaks could very well become a big tool of liberty and reform.
I think everyone has their right to privacy but in politics some secretes are better out in public. It is their job as politicians, to act diplomatic and watch theirs actions and words. I believe that if their scared or protective then they must definitely be hiding something.
The laws within the borders of the United States don't apply to Assagne. The servers that Wikileaks are hosted upon are within Sweden, and he usually resides within the borders of Sweden. The only laws that effect him are Swedish laws and International Laws. Assagne released information in regards to the Iraq War, and the documents had been censored to protect the lives of those in the military. The point of the released document were to highlight the over 100,000 civilians killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. The only reason that the US government is upset with Assagne is because he released information that makes leaders look incompetent and violent. Within Swedish borders and following Swedish law they have every right to release the information they have and the documents that have been released are beneficial to understanding the Middle Eastern conflict.
