Article: Read the article about the vote that happened last night on the Senate floor over the Teachers, Firefighters, and Police Jobs Bill.

Pausing to Reflect: 10th Anniversary of September 11th

Ten years ago, my 15 year old daughter came running in my room waking me up and yelled, "Mom, turn the T.V. on a plane has crashed into a building in New York City" I quickly turned the television on just in time to see the horrific vision of the second plane crash into the second twin tower. At that point it was obvious that we were facing something other than plane crashes. My daughter remembers my words, which unfortunately I can not repeat in this blog. As I sat there in shock and true disbelief I was so mad, but mainly so very sad. Did I cry? Not yet. Watching peole running when the towers went down, not being able to get hold of my sister-in-law who worked every other week in the Financial District right next door to the Towers was very stressful. I actually turned the television off. I tried to proceed with my day, I was enrolled at ASU at this time and got in my car and started driving. I didn't get very far, I realized like many my age that this not only was a terrible event, but it truly meant war. I was scared for my children and their friends, young people who had enlisted in the military would now truly know the greatest sacrafice ever, death and destruction. I never made it to class, I turned my car around, opend my garage, hung my American Flag and for the first time in a long time prayed.

Since this time I have been to ground zero, been to St. Paul's Church which is right next to WTC, this church became the haven for fire fighters after the attack. I have walked ground zero and saw all the memorials. So much has changed, so many people died, but we as Americans survived, at first we were so united, it must have been what our forefathers meant when they said, "United We Stand" So much has happened in the ten years since, some good some bad. But overall Americans stood strong on September 11, 2001 and it still do today.

Subjects!!! It is time to take a stand. I realize that I have made some of you unhappy, but is that any reason to break ties that bind us to each other. You are English, you are England, you are important!! Stop this madness. I demand it. Have I not fed you, protected you from the French and Indians? Do I not take great care of you. You want for nothing. It is time to write me a letter explaining your position. Are you for or against your FAMILY, your heritage, your country? Write me a letter, make sure to include at least four reason why you are a loyalist or a patriot. I will not rest until I hear from all of you.

Comparing Revolutions

Compare and Contrast the American Revolution and the Revolutions in the Middle East.

1. Who were the people joining the American Revolution? Who are the people joining the Middle Eastern Revolutions.

2. What were the reasons for the American Revolution and what are the reasons for the Middle Eastern Revolutions?

3. Where are the current revolutions occurring in the Middle East?

4. Compare and contrast the outcome of the American Revolution against the revolutions in the Middle East.

5. Should the United States help the Middle Eastern countries fight? Why/Why Not?

American History!?

Democracy: the political orientation of those who favor government by the people or by their elected representatives

Yet this was denied Native Americans until the Indian Citizenship Act of 1924 gave them that right. In 1956 the State of Utah became the last State to grant that right.
Many states, including, New Mexico overtly did not allow Native Americans to vote until 1962. Which is abysmal given that New Mexico has a large Native population.

Denied to African American males until the 15th Amendment which states:
The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.

And denied to American women until August of 1920, when the 19th Amendment was signed stating:
The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.

We have learned in class the plight of the Native Americans, African Americans pre-Civil War, and now the fight American women had to go through in order to vote.
